What is your dream destination? Is it Hawaii, Florida, Paris, or London? Is it beaches or is it national parks? Whatever it is, I bet the Midwest is not at the top of your list. The heart of America, where there is not much, but corn and soybeans for miles, seems to be so under appreciated when it comes to travel destinations. It is the part of the country people fly over. However, its beauty and friendliness is not something anyone should miss out on. This may come as a surprise, but there is actually reasons why you should make your dream destination one of the states in the heart of America.
Reason 1: The Iowa State Fair
The fair began in 1854. It now takes place in Des Moines, Iowa and has made the book: 1000 Places to See Before You Die. There are rides, food, games, contests, concerts, and of course, the famous Butter Cow.
Reason 2: Star Gazing
Stars can generally be seen everywhere, but nothing is compared to the stars in the Midwest. The Midwest is like a star gazers dream because of the lack of light pollution and the fact that you can see for miles. An event called The Nebraska Star Party is something to check out if you are interested in stargazing. Here is a link to check it out: http://www.nebraskastarparty.org/
Reason 3: The Saint Louis Arch
The Gate Way to the Midwest is the arch in St. Louis, Missouri. Located in a big city with attractions, such as Busch Stadium and the St. Louis Zoo, the St. Louis arch is a major attraction in the Midwest. Standing at 630 feet, it is hard to miss. If you are not afraid of heights like I am, you might even decide to venture up this giant structure to see, what I hear, is an amazing view.
Reason 4: Mall of America
Located in Bloomington, Minnesota, this mall consists of more that just shops and a carousal. Along with shops, located within the mall is an aquarium, a Nickelodeon-themed amusement park, a movie theater, and a museum, making it the perfect place to bring your kids.
Reason 5: Mount Rushmore
Who wouldn't want to see five of the United States Presidents heads carved in to a rock? It is very impressive and a must if you love national parks. Located in the black hills in South Dakota, Mount Rushmore should absolutely be on your list of travel destinations.
