13 Underrated 'Vintage' Halloween Costumes

There’s no denying that over the years, Halloween costumes have evolved. Nowadays one can wear almost anything and get away with calling it their costume. Some of the most unique ones, though, stem from current pop culture or media trends. But what’s wrong with getting inspiration from not-so-current pop culture? Every year you run into at least one Britney Spears, and you can’t go anywhere without seeing someone clad in a Harry Potter cloak, scar and all. Still, it’s time to go a little farther into our childhood and get a little more creative with our costumes.

Ladies:

Gwen Stefani – (Hollaback Girl Era)

Easy, simple, effective and overall genius- this costume is b-a-n-a-n-a-s.

Mary Poppins

Not even a spoonful of sugar could make this costume any sweeter.

Avril Lavinge

There’s nothing "Complicated" about this one. Plaid Skirt? Check. Striped tie? Check. An abundance of black eyeliner? Check.

Zenon

Zedis Lapedis! This one might require more effort than others but the end result is definitely worth it.

Gentleman:

Ferris Bueller

Play "Twist and Shout" in your own honor. You deserve it, Bueller.

Will Smith or Carlton Banks – “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”

Either one will be immediately recognizable and amazing. Bonus points if you must out The Carlton Dance moves.

You’re not fooling anyone if you say you wouldn’t know which one you would be (Dorinda). Grab your retired matching jumpsuit, your three best friends and you’re ready.

The Breakfast Club

Have four friends and time to go to a thrift store? Perfect. (Dibs on Bender)

N’SYNC

If your group of friends is feeling bold this Halloween, dressing like the most popular boy band of the 90’s is the only way to go. Bonus points if you frost your tips.

Again, you’d be lying if you said you didn’t dream of competing on this show. So. Much. Slime.
