The past two years of my life have been spent as a college student. I have opened my eyes to a new world where I am surrounded by adults and emerged in a life with adult responsibilities. The catch is that I am not the only one in this world who has adult responsibilities, which in all obvious nature, should make me feel better.
However, the past two years have made me feel like I've been living in a world full of everything BUT adults.
I've been faced with such negligent, ill-prepared, inconsiderate people and I'm not entirely sure why that is when at this point in our lives, we should have done a great deal of our maturing and growing up before entering the serious world of furthering our education/future career.
My anxiety levels skyrocket when I am approached with people who do not show up for class, yet ask their classmates for all of their test preparation materials to look off of to attempt to "study" five hours before an exam.
Take out the trash if it is overflowing with your crap. Don't be up all night on the phone if your roommate has a huge test that they've been studying for for days. If you eat food and it makes a mess, clean it up. These are basic kindergarten fundamentals, people.
I hear stories of people wasting away their bank accounts and valuable time drinking each night away at the bars, only to come home in the early hours of the morning like a bull in a china shop waking their roommates up. Those anger me the most because an individual's decisions should NEVER interfere with the decisions of others. Just because you decided to go out on a Tuesday night while I decide to stay in because I have an early class the next day, does not give you the right to come home at 3 a.m., slam the door in a drunken state and microwave a Kraft macaroni and cheese cup.
My biggest pet peeve of these flaws has to be the inconsideration component. College is a time to not mess around when you're paying hundreds (possibly thousands if you rock and got into a big time school) of dollars by the hour. If you aren't at that point in your life when you realize that you aren't the only human being on the planet by now, then maybe it isn't time for you to enter the world of college yet.
Oh, and the libraries for some reason are crawling with loud, obnoxious cell phone users, five course meal eaters, and -- last, but not least -- the small percentage of people who actually use the library to get loads of work done and not as a hangout spot.
I get it, I might sound like the chick from "Mean Girls" who stands up and just wants every one to be happy, but literally everyone would be much happier if we all had a bit of consideration for one another and didn't try our hardest to piss off every Tom, Dick, and Harry.
P.S. If this letter offended you, then you're probably the inconsiderate idiots who the whole letter is about.
