If you aren't a film student, you probably aren't aware of all the fabulous alumni UC Santa Cruz has to offer. People automatically make the assumption that just because UC Santa Cruz isn't located in the Los Angeles hotspot, they don't have any famous alumni. People from out of state assume that because of the location of UC Santa Cruz, most of our alums work in Silicon Valley. While a lot of students choose to work afterwards in the bay area, due to the rising job market the Bay has to offer, there are quite a few alums that choice career paths down south. Well, here is an article to prove those assumptions false. From Marvel writers, to producers, and actors, UC Santa Cruz has them all. Here is just a few:
Axel Alonso:
Are you familiar with this name? Axel Alonso is an American comic book creator and former journalist, best known as the Editor-in-Chief at Marvel Comics, a role in which he has worked since January 2011. Alonso began his career as a journalist for New York's Daily News.
Peter Hankoff:
Well known for his documentary on Anne Frank's Holocaust.
Nicole Lorre:
Nicole Lorre works mainly as a second assistant director on the The Big Bang Theory. A show can't go on without amazing stage tech.
John Mankiewicz:
John Mankiewicz was co-executive producer of House of Cards. He has also written and produced episodes of House M.D.
David Manson:
David Manson is well known for producing and writing the second session of House of Cards (2013).
Barry Mendel:
Barry Mendel is well known as the producer of Trainwreck.
Gwyneth Horder-Payton:
Gwyneth Horder-Payton is known as the director to ABC's Once Upon a Time.
Maya Rudolph:
Maya Rudolph is known as an actress in Bridesmaids (2011), Grown Ups 2 (2013) and Sisters (2015).
Akiva Schaffer:
Have you heard of "Dick in a Box?" Well, here is the famous director.
James Stanton:
He was the editor of Empire and Married at First Sight.
Blake Leyh:
He is the supervising sound editor of Into the Woods and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. The scenic design seems to also look strangely like the forests in Santa Cruz.
