Coming to college is scary. Being there and not knowing anybody is even more terrifying. Many have done it, and I can say many have not succeeded in having roommates they actually enjoy. I came to SHSU as a junior. Transferring in can be hard, time consuming, and even redundant. Sometimes you have to take classes you have already taken (and made an A in), which is most unfortunate, and very aggravating. Going through all of these obstacles can be discouraging. Sometimes it makes you lose desire, drive, and the want to even be in school.
Above all, college can really make or break a person; especially if you feel utterly alone. I moved in with girls I didn’t know, in a place I was unfamiliar with, all the way to somewhere that I didn’t call home. My first thought was, “I don’t know how I am going to do this.” My family lives two hours away in my hometown, along with most of my best friends. But there I was, in good ole’ Huntsville, by myself, with out my parents, my sister, or my best friends. As I am well aware, God always has a way of shinning his light; he always manages to show you he will provide for you. Hence he provided me with the best roommates ever.
Having good roommates is always a plus, but having roommates who become a family, treat you like a sister, and that you genuinely love is hard to come by. Some people don’t get that lucky, I however did. From late night dance parties with just the three of us, to randomly buying a couch “because our living room just needs something,” there’s something great to say about the amazing roommates I have.
Not only do I have to thank the wonderful friend I have who recommended living with them to me, but I have to thank these wonderful two girls as well. As I said college is tough, moving out on your own in tough, and making friends can sometimes be even worse. My roommates made it easy though, they accepted me for all of my quirks, they love me for my sassiness, and most all we have a high respect for each other. They are both strong God fearing women, who have high aspirations in life, high standards, and goals like no other. Both of them work extremely hard in accomplishing each goal they set for themselves. From school, to their sorority, all the way to having a social life; they manage to have a well balanced and great head on their shoulders. I admire that in my roommates because I know how hard life is on its own, and they tend to go above and beyond; never letting the rocky path stop them.
So to my roommates; thank you for loving me, thinking my nerdy love for Jurassic Park and dinosaurs is actually not so nerdy, and pushing me through the times when I just feel like giving up. Thank you for not letting me be a homebody all the time, and being cool with my unhealthy obsession for Mac-N-Cheese. Thank you for encouraging me and also telling me when i'm not at my brightest. Thank you for getting me Freebirds, even though you're a Chipotle kind of person. Thank you for loving dogs just as much as I do. Thank you for trusting me enough to share secrets with me, and making me trust you enough to share mine with you. I could go on forever but most of all, thank you for being some of my closest friends.
So here’s to long years of friendship, future weddings (future bridesmaids), and so many happy memories. I wouldn’t trade my roommates (the best roommates) for any other roommate in the world. I can honestly say, you two have helped make Huntsville my home.
