1. Existential
Escapism comes in many shapes and sizes, waxing philosophical included. When push comes to shove, there's always the meaning of life, the universe, and everything to occupy yourself with, or the validity of ridiculous (or are they?) government conspiracy theories. Unless you had something better to do.
2. Elective
You are bored. To. Death. But at least you’re not suffering the worse fate of whatever you’re procrastinating. You've chosen to be bored by putting off responsibilities in favor of the pretense that you have “nothing to do” for right now. And you're secretly enjoying it.
3. Chronic
Over the course of days or weeks, boredom becomes a persistent, dull ache. Like arthritis of the willpower.
4. Acute
The setting could be an auto shop, maybe a restaurant or a doctor's office. Something is “taking a little longer than expected,” and there’s nothing you can do but wait. Though common, this ranks among the most frustrating types of boredom since you're in the dark. How can you gauge your distance from relief? You can't.
5. Cinderella
Doing the same humdrum chores or tasks for the hundred thousandth time can only mean one thing; you stopped paying attention forever ago, and now the whole thing is necessary but mind-numbingly boring.
6. Inexplicable
You know you really shouldn’t be bored. Really. There’s no good reason. And yet...
7. Gourmet
Food is readily available and always more entertaining than doing nothing. And then twenty minutes and half a cold pizza later, you’re met with the realization that eating is maybe not a solution. But pizza is never a problem.
8. Motivational
There comes a time of peak boredom when you determine that at least one of of two things is true. Either a.) you are not humanly capable of being any less interested while remaining conscious or b.) you refuse to find out how reaching that limit would look; regardless, you must find a way to pass time immediately, even if you have to invent it, or there will be consequences. This is what the end of a slump looks like.
