You know when your brain just sort of drifts off into a day-dream and all of a sudden the theme song to "Arthur" is playing through your head?
Here's a collection of theme songs from popular childhood TV programs for your listening and nostalgic pleasure.
1. "The Paper Bag Princess"
I don't know about you guys, but this was my s---. We checked this video tape out from the library so many times that the librarians thought we kept the damn thing.
And as an added bonus: the theme song.
2. "Kid Songs"
One of the more legendary shows from childhood, "Kid Songs" episodes were about 20-30 minutes long and even on days when the "no TV" rule was enforced, we could usually get away with watching this because of their "educational value." When it came to coming up with reasons to watch TV, my brother was a certified genius.
3. "Winnie the Pooh"
My personal favorite. I love Pooh and I'll always love Pooh. I remember watching it at my grandmother's house and eating frozen grapes. Definitely one of the more nostalgia-inducing of this list.
4. "Legends of the Hidden Temple"
OG "American Ninja Warrior"
5. "Wishbone"
I was super in love with Joe Talbot aka Jordan Wall and his glorious bowl cut and I definitely would've loved to follow the Jack Russell terrier around and dress him up.
6. "Sky Dancers"
Before I knew what the word "obsession" meant/the reason I know what "obsession" means...
7. "Arthur" (because obviously)
Featuring the O.G. spirit animal: Dora Winifred
8. "Out of the Box"
Vivian and Tony were the coolest and really made arts and crafts special for me and my siblings growing up. Totally still see the magic in giant cardboard boxes.
9. "Rolie Polie Olie"
#NeighborhoodAestheticGoals
10. "PB&J Otter"
Another sib favorite.
11. "Zoboomafoo"
The Kratt brothers taught me so much about animals. I'd traipse through my backyard and dig up all sorts of worms or pill bugs to put in a menagerie for a day or two and use them to teach my siblings what I had learned. Unfortunately, Zoboomafoo the lemur passed away but the Kratt brothers are still making shows and teaching about critters.
12. "Nanalan"
The combo of the puppet and the scenery is really unique, and adult Emily still digs this technique.
13. "Dragon Tales"
6-year-old Emily followed this story-line religiously...and then converted her siblings...
14. "Clifford the Big Red Dog"
I pretty much lost my mind when I found out that Clifford's owner, Emily Elizabeth, and I had the same name.
15. "Between the Lions"
Cliff Hanger hanging from a cliiiiff.
16. "Jackie Chan Adventures"
This series was so good they sold it with my cereal.
17. "Jimmy Neutron"
Jimmy Neutron, boy genius. This show was the shiznit. This dude even built his own dog! He was the coolest kid and even though he didn't have the biggest friend group, Sheen and Carl were loyal af.
18. "Sagwa The Chinese, Siamese Cat"
Sagwa was an awesome show. I still really dig the animation.
19. "Cyberchase"
Truth be told I could probably still sing this entire theme song word for word. No shame here.
20. "Liberty's Kids"
Another awesome theme song (Fun Fact: that rap you hear? Aaron Carter.) Every week Sarah, James, and Henri taught their audience of youngsters something about history in an engaging and educational way. Perfect combination to nurture learning and foster an interest in our history, especially at such a young age.
From compiling this list, I've learned two things:
1) I had a lot of time on my hands as a youngster, and
2) I need to go download a couple of theme songs...
Feeling nostalgic yet?
