What I'm Thankful For This Year

I am thankful for a lot more than just the turkey coma I'll be in Thursday night.

What I'm Thankful For This Year
Acts 2 Day

Every year when Thanksgiving rolls around we take the time to really reflect on everything we are thankful for. There are many things to be thankful for, from delivery food to fast internet connections; however, I am thankful for much, much more than just the new Chick-fil-A opening in Bangor.

I am thankful for my good health. Each day I am able to wake up and go on with my day without taking multiple medications or going through rigorous care routines. I don't have doctor visits all the time, but I am grateful I have access to healthcare facilities when needed.

I am thankful for all the challenges I have endured. Though at the time it may have been hard to see, every struggle has made me stronger and wiser. Each challenge has had a lesson behind it and I truly believe that without the lows I would not fully appreciate the highs.

I am thankful for my family and friends. Without them I literally would not be here. I am thankful for all the support, love and courage they give me each and everyday. They bring so much joy, laughter and adventure into my life, and no one could ever replace them.

I am thankful for moments of uncontrollable laughter. Deep belly laughs that I can't seem to ever control because it means that there is joy and happiness in my life, and great people to bring me those moments.

I am thankful for the small things. I cherish the small things because they tend to bring me more happiness than materialistic things. From sunsets and campfires to being at the lake or being home when I get the chance, are all things I'd take over pretty much anything else.

I am thankful for my voice. I am free to speak for myself and stick up for what I believe in. I am able to say what's on my mind and voice my opinion, which is something not everyone has the privilege of doing.

I am thankful for the adventures I've been on and the adventures to come. Hiking, traveling, white water rafting, cliff jumping, you name it I'm grateful for it. Without these adventures I would not have great stories to tell or exhilarating memories to look back on. Each adventure fills my life with something new.

I am thankful for my strength. For being able to stand my ground and never back down. I am thankful I have been able to learn from what life has thrown at me and turn it into something that benefits me.

I am thankful for my privileges. Although they may not be the most extravagant, I am grateful for the ones I have, because to someone else they are extravagant.

Lastly, I am thankful for me. That I am who I am, and that I am continuing to grow and find myself. I can be my own person and chose who I want to be. I have learned to love myself, flaws and all, and accept who I am.

As you reflect this Thanksgiving, think about the experiences you've endured and the people who have been by your side. Remember the hard times and know that you are stronger now and can make it through much more than you ever thought you could. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
