Whether you’re eating chocolate covered strawberries with you significant other or stuffing your face with ice cream in the living room with your dog, you can not escape the romance of Valentine’s Day. This holiday can be exciting and memorable for some and horrifying for others. If you’re like me, you feel pretty lucky on Valentine's day. For three magical years, I have been spoiled with flowers and M&Ms. If you’re not like me, don’t sweat it. I know you make that disgusting face when watching other couples show affection or see obnoxious couple pictures on Instagram.
As much as you want to drown your sorrows in chocolate and romance movies, there is no need for that. There is no shame in asking your cat to be your Valentine.
You are not forever alone.
Prince charming will knock on your door someday and put a ring on that finger. For now, enjoy being a single lady and have an anti-Valentine’s day party with your friends.
If you are bummed out about a recent breakup and can’t bear to go out on Valentines day, you are not alone. Take the day to slow dance with your mom or best friend. Remind your grandparents how much they are truly loved. Some of us need a reminder of how appreciated we are or maybe we need a giant teddy bear to cuddle with.
For anyone that is a non-valentine believer, don’t hate the hopeless romantics. Let us fantasize about the over dramatic movies and breathtaking proposals. Maybe you don’t see Valentine’s day as a real holiday or don’t see the point in red roses and heart shaped chocolates. Maybe you believe that showing appreciation and love should not be a one-day occurrence. Whatever the case, it is in fact, a real holiday and there is no escaping it. Embrace the candy and stuffed animal section at Walmart and maybe even buy a card for that special someone who could quite possibly be yourself.
