You're A Bad Person If You Still Support Trump

How can you support a man filled with such hate?

Ever since the election, relationships with people have been hard.

God forbid you talk about an opposing view to someone, you are leaving yourself completely open for every kind of rebuttal you can think of. Everyone is full of their own opinions and beliefs on what this new president stands for, his motives, and the basic morality that he has. I have so many opinions and beliefs on this very matter but that’s not what I wish to share today. What I wish to share is my thoughts on his voters and supporters, especially since the recent events in Charlottesville.

I have so many opinions and beliefs on this very matter but that’s not what I wish to share today. What I wish to share is my thoughts on his voters and supporters, especially since the recent events in Charlottesville.

I’m sure by now everyone is caught up on the events of Charlottesville and how a young woman lost her life in such a violent manner. I sat there day after day listening to Trump’s speeches, every analysis and panel on his words, and the voices of his opponents, colleagues, and supporters.

I was shocked to hear a resounding support still for Trump and his lack of acknowledging the young girl who was murdered and the inability of Trump to fully condemn the acts of those white supremacists.

A young girl was brutally killed for simply marching in support of equality and people were fine that Trump didn’t even mention her name!

That is unacceptable to me from a human being and from the president of the United States. Trump then went on to say there was violence and mistakes made on both sides of the rallies and protests taking that weekend, and of course, people agreed with Trump.

That is simply incorrect.

First off, those in the counter protests were not the ones walking with flaming torches, walking up to churches filled with people just trying to pray, and certainly weren’t the ones calling for the expulsion and frankly death of anyone who isn’t white and straight.

As I heard the events of the weekend and unfold I thought a lot about the Trump supporters I have encountered in my life, the conversations had, and the thoughts exposed and I came to one conclusion.

Frankly, if you still support Trump, I think you’re a bad person.

I think you support racism, I think you are misogynistic, and I feel like you lack the basic care for your fellow man.

How do you support white supremacy or the man who runs the country and supports it? You are literally saying you are OK with people walking down streets calling for the extermination of an entire race or religion.

You are OK with a man leading a country after he boasted about forcefully grabbing women’s genitals.

You support the condemnation of equality and are simply seeking to push your small group forward and oppressing others rather than trying to bring everyone on an equal level.

If you still support Trump and defend his actions after Charlottesville, you are basically saying you do not condemn the individual who plowed down a young woman for simply exercising her right as an American citizen to stand up for what she believes is right.

You know what, those white supremacists had every right to say the hateful things they did because in America you can share your beliefs even if they are disgusting. You can say what you want because that is your right. But, you do not have the right to take a life for sharing their beliefs.

And the president of the United States should condemn any act of violence, especially one as atrocious as this. To not be horrified by his ignorance is to support it, to defend him is to show your true colors. And those colors are filled with hate and ignorance.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
