Dear Mr. Trump

A letter from a minority.

Dear Mr. Trump,

Congratulations on being elected to be the next president of the United States of America. This is truly a large accomplishment. Though I may not have supported you during your campaign, I am rooting for your success. However, I would like for you to understand why you being the president elect makes me slightly more than uncomfortable.

1. I am a triple minority.

I am a woman. I am black. I am of Latin descent. Over the course of your campaign, you have publicly, verbally obliterated, embarrassed, and ridiculed all of those groups and more. You have given us the impression that you are a racist, sexist, homophobic hog. And now you are the person in power for the next four years. I'm sure you can understand why that doesn't sit well with us. It isn't really you that is the predominant problem. It is your supporters that identify with the adjective "bigot." Mr. Trump when you came out in public and campaigned in that style, you created an environment that felt like it was okay to treat others that way. Now people that see things that way have become very bold very quickly, thinking it is okay to commit hate crimes and say the things that they say to people in any type of minority group...and that is not okay. During your campaign, friends of mine wanted you to win because they were scared of their taxes getting raised, all the while I was scared for the well being of my life if you were elected. I assume that you are a very smart man, given the reasons you have been successful in business, and somehow with no political experience you still managed to win the election. With that being said you are being given the chance to show that you are not that person you said you were. I am hoping you said those things just to get that bigot vote. If that was the case then I commend you because it was a genius tactic. All I ask is that you unify this nation like you say you plan, and you treat every human being equal, regardless or sex, race, ethnicity, background, or sexual orientation.

2. Planned Parenthood

Oh the argument of the decade. Yes, abortion. I personally do not support abortion, but I do support women's rights. Women should have the right to choose what to do with their body. The government should not have any control over it. Any religious affiliated views should not be the determining factor in making abortions legal or illegal. It should be left as a choice for that woman, and then it can be a personal situation between her and God and that is it. Nobody else should have any part in it. Many claim that abortion is the killing of a child and that goes against God, even if that "child" is just a fertilized egg at the time. Yet some of those that say that also don't even give a rat's ass about a Syrian refugee child, or a child from any other country we don't quite get along with. If that is the case, we need to stop pretending like our political views are in any way religious because they aren't. Abortion, just like homosexuality, is a touchy subject to society; however, I don't care what anyone says, it is not a political issue. Mr. Trump, all I ask is that you take into consideration the lives of women and be logical on how to approach the situation. As I said before, you are a smart man.

3. The Wall

Probably my largest concern yet. You want to build a wall and make the Mexicans build it...let's just think about this for a second. If we did get the wall up, how successful do you actually think it would be? I do not believe for two seconds that a wall would keep someone out that is running to better opportunity. I know what you're thinking, we wouldn't need a wall if immigrants would just go through the legal process. The problem with that is, the process of obtaining citizenship in America is such a prolonged process that can take years. Not to mention the test you have to take contains material that the majority of Americans are not educated about, especially the 85% of voters who have a high school education or lower that voted for you, yet they are the true Americans right? So you're expecting for a person to stay in a country that is dangerous, unclean, with minimal opportunity until we can get back to them with a green card? The system needs to be made more efficient, especially if the whole wall idea is going to be a real thing. All of us that are here in this beautiful country are technically illegal immigrants. All of our families came over here "illegally." So how are we going to put regulations on others, after our ancestors did the same? Run after better opportunity, a better life.

I say all this to say, Good luck Mr. Trump, you have many on your side, but also many are already against you. You have contradicted yourself by creating a nasty divide in this nation, but in closing saying you want to unify us. We are extremely wary, and hesitant because we don't know what to expect. I personally hope you go down in history being one of the best and proving many wrong. At the same time, I hope you treat people with love and compassion and create an unbroken band of brothers and sisters. I hope you teach people how to be accepting of others. I hope you set a good example for many from here on out. I hope you do well for your sake and ours. Here is me putting my trust in you Mr. Trump, please do not run this country into the ground, you say you want to make America great again, and by that I hope you plan to keep America moving forward and being progressive. Creating things and making innovations. Not setting us back a few decades and making us start over. Here's to you Mr. Trump, and to a successful four years.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
