Sure, we’ve all found ourselves searching for YouTube videos from time to time. Whether its a how-to video or a funny video of a panda sneezing, we’ve all been there. What most people don’t know is that YouTube is actually much more than that. It's a community. Since 2005, YouTube has been building a close circle of both viewers and creators. These creators are what we call “Youtubers.” A Youtuber can create any content they’d like. Whether you post makeup tutorials, pranks, tags, or challenges, each Youtuber seems to have their own forte. Youtubers such as Tyler Oakley and Joey Graceffa have amassed millions of subscribers just talking to their cameras. These Youtubers are called “vloggers.”
I, myself, spent my high school career watching people create these videos online. It seemed like a great outlet and a way to express yourself. By my sophomore year of high school, I had been a viewer for almost half a decade. I decided to try my hand at being a creator for a change. I LOVED it! Filming and editing videos was and is one of my favorite pasttimes. It was what I looked forward to every week. After a few videos and several negative comments from my peers, I decided to go back to just being a viewer. Crazy, right? I actually let a few insignificant classmates tell me what to do. Flash forward a long 4 years of just being a viewer and we are at my second semester of college. I was at the end of my rope. I couldn’t just sit there and not make a video! So, during my spring break I opened a new YouTube channel. This one would be different and it has been to date. I am creating content that I truly love. The videos I produce reach a small crowd of viewers, who are the most awesome people I know. I can honestly say creating videos makes me happier than I have ever been in my life and I am so glad I decided to put myself out there. My YouTube experience this time around has been nothing but positive, thanks to all of the support I have received. If you’re reading this and struggling with fitting in or pleasing others, just stop. Those people won’t bring you happiness. What will bring you happiness is doing what you love with all of your heart. Who cares what others think? The only opinion that matters is your own.
Overall, my decision to open a new YouTube channel is the best I have made yet. I have the most supportive group of family and friends who encourage me to continue and I couldn’t do it without them. I have made so many new friends through YouTube and learned so much about myself. YouTube is something I will always be grateful for. As I always say at the end of my videos, make sure you subscribe to my channel because I do post new videos every Sunday. As always, thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you next Monday.
