Growing up, my sister and I have always been extremely close. It is inevitable, being that we are only 14 months apart. Yes, there were instances, and still are instances, where we have disagreements, sometimes even fights. However, I have never felt as fortunate to have my sister as my best friend as I do now.
Both of us attend the University of Toledo, which was not exactly the original plan, but it ended up working out pretty nicely for a wide variety of reasons.
First of all, I always have someone on-campus I can count on to hang out with when I’m bored, or just to talk to when I need some advice. I never feel alone without her here and that is something that I am truly grateful for.
Secondly, who else gives better (and brutally honest) fashion advice than a sister? Specifically, one that is practically the same age as you. Sharing clothes, shoes and accessories is an added bonus as well, although it does cause a bit of conflict every now and then.
She always is there when I need advice about my relationships, not just with my boyfriend, but with my friends, as well. Obviously, we have different views on a lot of things, especially when it comes to boys and partying and a wide variety of other topics as well, but it is helpful to get her input whenever I can.
Not only do we have different views on things, but our personalities are polar opposites, as well. She is in a sorority, which is not really my thing. She is social and has tons of friends, I am quiet and only have a few friends. But I find that I often learn the most when I am hearing from someone who has an opposing outlook than I do, which is why we work so well together.
Lastly, I always have someone to listen to me and she does too. Life is stressful, and college is certainly difficult, but having the support system that siblings tend to have makes things loads easier.
I was very eager to have my little sis join me here at UT. However, I had no idea that having her here would mean this much to me. If you have a sibling that goes to the same school as you, be grateful—that is something you should never take for granted.
