5 Things Traveling Teaches You
Traveling is about what you want to see so don't be afraid to make mistakes or try new things.

1. Trying new things is actually a good thing.

If you go to a city, but you're not willing to immerse yourself in the culture then honestly what are you doing. Traveling is all about experiencing new things and learning from the mistakes and successes that come with it. Each place is filled with rich history and traditions. Don't be afraid to go out into the world! A great way of doing this is by keeping an open mind and a positive mindset. Good or bad, these experiences will serve as great stories and memories to cherish.

2. It's not as expensive as you think it is.

You can actually save money while traveling if you budget right. For example, flying in Europe is cheap thanks to flight companies such as RyanAir. A ticket to Paris can be as cheap as 50 Euro per person. Taking the train, bus or biking is also another effective, yet cheap way around. Eating like a local is also cheaper than going to all the touristy restaurants. A sandwich and water can be purchased for as little as 4 Euro depending where you go. There are also tons of sites and places that have free admission or reduced prices depending on the season or day you go. If you budget well and plan accordingly, you can easily save hundreds of dollars that could be used for your next trip!

3. Taking pictures is a must.

If you've ever judged someone who took tons of Snapchats or pictures of what they were doing, well now you will understand. Capturing a timeless moment is one of the best (and not to mention free) souvenirs you can get from traveling. Not only do they remind you of the good times, but they will always be something to look back on.

4. You don't have to do all the touristy or expensive things.

Just because you read on some website that you MUST go to all the museums and restaurants that the city offers, doesn't mean you have to. Traveling should be about what you want to see, not what some book or magazine says you should do. Try to find the hidden gems of the city you're traveling to or stay the night at a local city. Who knows what you'll find or experience along the way.

5. Some of the best trips are last-minute.

I know I say this a lot, but trust me they are. The most memorable trips to me have been the ones that I grabbed a backpack and drove to.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
