Why Traveling Is Good For The Soul

The beginning of my travels started when I was only three years old and went on my first airplane. I vividly remember being amazed as I heard a ton of different accents while strolling through the airport. I distinctly recall looking out the plane window in awe of the beauty that was found within the clouds and on the ground. I was just a little girl when my love of traveling first sparked- and years later nothing has changed.

What I really love about traveling is the fact that it makes me appreciate everything more than I typically do. Whether I'm exploring a new area in my hometown that I've never been to before or getting lost in a different continent, I get reminded of how grand and infinite our planet is. No matter how boring our lives can be sometimes, traveling reassures you that there's always something new to be discovered and that life is only as boring as you make it.

While traveling gives me the opportunity to admire the different wonders of Earth, it also allows me to appreciate my daily life more. After visiting other places, I reflect on the life that I lead at home and realize just how wonderful it is.

Now don't get me wrong, I love to travel for many reasons- the foreign people that I get the chance to meet, the breathtaking views that I am fortunate to soak in and especially the diverse foods that I get to appreciate. However, the true beauty in traveling is the depth that traveling adds to your life and the impact it has on you even after you leave the destination. Within each and every place that you visit, new life lessons are to be learned and new memories are to be made. When I was in Punta Cana, I realized that life is all about adventure so even though I was terrified at times, I dared myself to try to have new experiences. From all of my times in Croatia, I have learned that friendship and love can overcome any distance, no matter how big or small.

Traveling to different places gives one the opportunity to witness and understand different cultures. By getting a better understanding of different cultures, people become more well-rounded as they expand their minds and accept diverse ways of thinking. Traveling, therefore, allows you to grow as an individual because as you explore the world, you find yourself too.

So far, I've traveled to certain places in Europe and the Caribbean but I plan on eventually visiting all seven continents. Someone once said, "Travel as much as you can and as far as you can, life is too short to be spent in one place,"- and I could not agree anymore.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
