Since summer is here, for most people, we are traveling. Whether it is to a different country or state, everyone is immersed in the experience rather than checking our phones every five minutes.
I came back from Canada yesterday and it didn't go as planned. It was a two-day trip and I had a list of the places I wanted to visit and eat but time slipped away too quickly. My parents and I went to meet my father's old professor, we all went to China Town to hang out and at the end of the trip, I did get to buy sunglasses, which was what I wanted.
Although I was frustrated because no one asked me where I wanted to go, and yes I did tell my parents beforehand, they forgot so I visited China Town and Queen St and I took a lot of pictures. It seemed like there was artwork on the side of the buildings nearly every corner I turned. It was nice to see because, in Cleveland, I haven't seen many artworks on the side of the buildings before.
Was I disappointed in regards to not being able to stop by all of the places I planned? Of course. However, it did lead me to new places and new interactions. I have plenty of bad experiences when it comes to specific places but it's a story nonetheless that I could tell people. Also, the good experiences outweigh the bad experiences so I was satisfied.
No matter which restaurant or store I stumble upon, I would always take a business card. Ever since two years ago, I went to Detroit for a Society of Professional Journalism event, I met so many wonderful professions in the field and I would take it in case I ever wanted to contact them.
Whenever I'm seeking an internship or a job opportunity, those business cards are the first ones I look at so I can research about their company and if there are opportunities available.
Taking business cards is convenient, especially if you're in a different country like I was and wasn't sure of the address, I would find it and look for it on my GPS.
Any business cards I take is in my wallet but since I have quite a few of them, I might move them to a smaller pouch.
Also, you can refer back to the cards if you want to chat with a friend or a loved one about your experience there.
