The place where my voice is heard.

Why I Write

One thing that I have enjoyed doing since I have been able to, is to write. No matter what, writing has always been something I could rely on. It has been therapy for me. It has been a way to channel all my feelings in a private space without the world to watch. Writing has provided me with an outlet to express who I am as a person. It has been a communicative tool with my community and those whom I have never even met, to express my ideas and perspectives on current issues in our society.

A wonderful characteristic that comes with writing is the fact that it is open-ended. There is so much you can write about. The sky is really the limit. From politics to the latest fashion trend, especially on Odyssey, you are free to write whatever inspires you. A chance to create meaningful content about a subject you take interest in.

As a writer, I have a passion for creating. I have a desire to give a different viewpoint on a topic that is well-known. I have an urge to give light to an area that otherwise may be kept in the dark. I have a chance to influence others around me. I have the possibility of inspiring others through my work. And maybe, I might even have the opportunity to encourage fellow writers to do the same.

There is so much power in words. As a writer, I also have the responsibility of using words for good or bad. I hope that through my writing I can use my voice to fortify positivity and to be bold in what I am speaking about.

One of my favorite poets is Maya Angelou. Personally, I believe she explains the nature of writing beautifully through this quote, " The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart.”

While I enjoy writing for myself it means nothing without an audience. The purpose of writing is to be a vessel for thoughts and ideas that haven't been discovered. To be an examiner of the world we live in and to leave a mark where a blank space was before. Writing can be used to entertain, persuade, describe, and narrate an immeasurable amount of issues. An unrestricted outlet to let the imagination flow freely from mind to paper. A way to make a connection with those who agree with your viewpoint and can relate and those who may disagree with you as well. All in all, writing is a full circle of communication between one another.

To any of you reading this article, if you feel stirred to write I encourage you to do so. As Maya Angelou says in "Why The Caged Bird Sings", “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
