I hear wedding bells! Here comes fashion's newest power couple: Tory Burch and Pierre-Yves Roussel.
To ring in the New Year, chairman and chief executive of the American brand with her name, Tory Burch, and chairman and chief executive of the LVMH Fashion Group, Pierre-Yves Roussel, got engaged. Roussel’s LVMH Fashion Group includes brands such as Givenchy, Celine, Loewe, Kenzo and Marc Jacobs. Not only does this unite two talented fashion enthusiasts, but it might even unite two fashion empires.
Throughout fashion history, there has been a presence of power couples working together. Everyone from Prada’s Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada to Gucci’s Frida Giannini and Patrizio di Marco; Valentino’s Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti and Dolce & Gabbana’s Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. However, this is the first time chief members of two different empires might bridge the gap.
The couple met while Roussel was exploring the American market for LVMH, and they have been together since 2014. However, Burch has been married before — once to William Macklowe and then to Chris Burch, with whom she has three sons. Her latest marriage was when she started her clothing company. Although divorced, the battle was settled, publicly, in late 2012, where he sold about half of his shares in Tory Burch.
Being the social media guru she is, with nearly 1 million followers, Burch went straight to Instagram, posting a picture of the lovely couple, writing, “We are tying the knot… #blessed #engaged #happynewyear.”
Even Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue and artistic director of Condé Nast, said, “With some couples, you wonder why they’re together. With Tory and Pierre-Yves, you can’t ever imagine them apart. They are the very definition of ‘the perfect match:’ both brilliant, both charming, both with three sons, both sharing the same interests and pursuits.”
What will this wedding and union mean for the fashion industry? From a business standpoint, Roussel has been scouting the market for a fashion partner in America. Although Roussel overseas brands like DKNY and Kenzo, whom compete directly with Tory Burch, this might be the powerful union LVMH is looking for. Could Tory Burch be the next brand under the LVMH Fashion Group? No news yet, but let’s cross our fingers!
Just as we’re all excited to see more ring details, what about the dress? There are so many options Burch can look at: design her own wedding gown, wear something from the LVMH brand or even turn to Valentino! Who knows, but we’re sure excited to see what’s next for fashion’s newest power couple.
