So sit back, relax, and enjoy some overpriced movie theatre popcorn as we list the most anticipated movies of 2016/2017 coming to a theater near you.
1. "Alice Through the Looking Glass" - May 27, 2016
Let's kick off the list with some madness! Get it? With Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp both reprising their roles as Alice and the Mad Hatter, Tim Burton will certainly take us on yet another adventure not necessarily down the rabbit hole this time, but something even more exciting to watch out for. Although much of the premise is still under wraps, we can only assume that this sequel follows Lewis Carroll's novel of the same name in which Alice steps through the mirror hanging above her fireplace mantel and steps into an alternate universe. Are you ready go through the looking glass?
2. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" - July 2017
Yo, ho! Yo, ho! Is the pirate life for you? Captain Jack Sparrow sure is ready to set sail next summer to help you find out! In this next installment to the POTC series, Jack must lead his crew on yet anther endeavor in the deep blue sea. What could possibly go wrong? Jack's old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar, might have some ideas while making his return to the big screen. His return with a vengeance to kill all the pirates at sea, that is. Hopefully Jack and his crew still have a few tricks up their sleeve to defeat him once and for all. Well, until the next installment in the franchise happens.
3. "Zootopia" - March 2016
This coming-of-age comedy adventure movie will leave you with a new perspective on our new anthropomorphic pals. The modern metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of the biggest elephants to the tiniest of creatures, it's where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, you can be anything you'd like to be. But when Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force to some of the biggest of animals isn't as easy as she thought it would be. Determined to prove herself to the town and others, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Are you ready to dive into this furry friendly family movie?
4. "Jungle Book" - April 2016
Forget about your worries and your strife because "The Jungle Book" is swinging its way to theaters soon! This all-new adaptation of the classic Disney movie is a live-action epic adventure about Mowgli, a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. However, problems in the jungle begin to unwind when Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger, Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. On Mowgli's journey to self-discovery, he makes a few new friends, including Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johannsson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken). With breathtaking CGI animals and environments all around, using the latest technology Disney has to offer, the story of "The Jungle Book" will surely lead audiences to an enchanting path through the jungle.
5. "The Good Dinosaur" - Nov. 25, 2015
Pixar has done it again! Breathtaking visuals that makes reality look real, a little too real. Peter Shon’s "The Good Dinosaur" seems to be no exception to this. Hopefully Arlo the Apatosaurus and his human pet/best pal Spot can leave not only a lasting roar for Pixar but for the audiences waiting to take a charge into the prehistoric adventure this fall.
6. "Finding Dory" - June 7, 2016
Finding Nemo was one of the animation house's most beloved films. We just kept on swimming and just kept swimming and hoping that the adventure will continue. After almost 13 years from the first installment, we can finally follow the story of one of the most beloved fishes in the sea. So grab your exit buddy along with fish friends Marlin and Nemo to help Dory remember her past. What can she remember? Who are her parents? Be sure to refresh your whale speak because Finding Dory will be swimming to your theatre sooner than you can say, "Duuuddddeeeeee."
7. "Toy Story 4" - June 16, 2017
Hopefully, you've had enough time to get that snake out of your boot because Toy Story 4 is coming to theaters full swing. Despite the fact that Toy Story 3 tied up the franchise so neatly, with Woody being passed on to a new generation of children, and making us cry our eyes out, Disney claims to have come up with a new installment it just “had to make.” With all of Woody and his pals returning for this next movie in the already popular franchise, Disney’s chief creative officer John Lasseter said at D23 conference that Toy Story 4 will be “a love story with Woody and - and you guessed it - Bo Peep.” Be ready to go infinity and beyond! Or just to the movie theatre to start off.
8. "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" - Dec. 18, 2015
