Top Basic New Year's Resolutions

It's the same ones we hear every year!

Top Basic New Year's Resolutions

It's the new year and with it comes the, oh cliche, resolutions. Sometimes we say things we don't really mean, and it's best not to say them out loud because if you don't follow through there's always that one person that will call you out on it. Only about 5 percent of people actually follow through with their resolutions. And to those, I slowly stand up and clap my hands. Anyways, I digress, here are the top four resolutions I always hear people make! I could only think of four so stop judging me! Feel free to comment basic resolutions you hear!

4. "Gonna focus on my studies more!"

Oh, please! You know every time you reach the end of each semester the struggle gets real and you begin reevaluating for the fifth time if you should just quit and become a stripper. You start skipping class because that professor just made you turn in a 10 page paper and you think you deserve a few classes off. You miss a couple homework assignments because you made an A on the last test and you tell yourself you should be good. There's too many variables that will definitely not make this happen.

3. "I'm gonna make new friends and relationships."

Honey, bye! You know you're going to stick with the same circle you made freshman year. You know how much work it is trying to find new friends? And on top of that you have to take the time to find out if you can trust them. You have to control certain jokes around those new potential friends because you don't know what might offend them. Ain't nobody got time for that!

2. "New year. New me!"

Homie, swerve. Really? So you're just going pretend like you're a whole new person now? Oh, you're going to start cutting people off? And not care what any has to say about it? But, wait, that's a part of growing up. We drop off those less important and not giving attention to those of less importance as we begin to realize that our time and our relationships with people are precious. That's not a resolution, friend, that's life!

1. "I'm gonna work out and start eating healthy!"

Child, please! Just because 2016 just dropped doesn't mean you're really going to reevaluate your life to fit that in your schedule. It's fact that 95 percent of us, human beings, are born naturally lazy (do not quote me on this fact). It's physically (and mostly mentally) impossible to work out and eat healthy everywhere you go! Okay, okay, pause, you can in fact work out and eat healthy everywhere you go just by simply jogging to your destinations and bringing healthy snacks. But come on, don't let the only reason for getting healthy and fit be the new year! Let it be because you're trying to better yourself!

Don't let the new year be your reason to change. Because it's an easy factor on not following through your resolution. Matter of fact, don't call it resolutions anymore because that word just seems completely non-motivating.

From someone who's just fully over the whole New Year's resolution thing.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
