Why New Year's Resolutions Make You Look Superficial
Indiereader.com

Every year, most people make that same old cliché promise to themselves that they will do XYZ in the new year. You're going to eat healthier, you're going to lose weight, you're going to go to the gym more, you're going to start saving your money, you're going to be a better person... yeah okay. Even worse than making an empty promise to yourself, people then go and post said "resolution" all over social media to make themselves look good.

New Year's resolutions have become less of a promise to oneself and more of a competition of who can come up with the most original resolution or how good your resolution will make you look. The reality is that most people will stick to their guns for the first month of so, but then will slowly stray from what they promised to do. You'll start snacking on junk food again, you'll stop going to the gym as often, you'll keep spending money and your character will not have improved in the slightest.

There are also some people who do follow through with their resolution, but rub it in everyone else's faces, as if they are asserting dominance over their friends and family. These people will make sure that they are at the top of hierarchy of New Year's resolutions.

It used to be fun to make New Year's resolutions, but now I don't even bother anymore, because you shouldn't just be looking to better yourself during the new year, you should want to better yourself consistently. I stopped posting about what I'm going to do in the new year because frankly, it doesn't matter. What I choose to do or not do will not make me any better than my friends or family.

So this year, be mindful of what you do about your New Year's resolution. To each their own, but don't be posting for the wrong reasons.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
