Top 5 Questions I Was Asked The First Week Of School

My first week of school just ended and it was full of emotions! Being a freshman hasn't been too bad, but my favorite thing about being at a new school is meeting new people. As the people person I am, meeting new people is a breeze for me. The one thing I noticed when I meet new people in class is I've been asked the same questions about 30 times this past week. It's become repetitive, but it's college what do you expect. So I am going to share the top questions I was asked, and hopefully whoever is reading this can relate!

1. What's your major?

This question I myself have asked at least to one person in my classes, and I was asked at least by one person in my classes. This has to be the most popular question asked during the first week of school because there is that little hope that the person you're talking to is the same major. (Future BFFs maybe?) I'm not too bothered by this question because it's a great conversation starter!

2. What dorm are you staying in?

This question is usually asked after what my major is. This is a personal favorite because I loved everyone's face when I said where I live. This question is asked a lot because just like the first question you want to know if someone is staying on the same floor or just in the same building. Another great conversation starter.

3. Are you in a sorority?

I was actually surprised how many times I was asked this question. Like many universities around the country, OSU's rush week is the week before classes start. I think I was asked this question more than I was asked what my major was. I know that I have asked that question quite a few times last week, and I realized how many people are involved in Greek life on campus. It was very surprising.

4. Where are you from?

This question is actually fun to ask because I'm from Texas and no one knows what exact town I'm from. I always say that i'm from Dallas unless I meet someone else that's from Dallas then I say what town I'm actually from. After being asked this question I realized that a lot of the students are from Texas. It was actually pretty refreshing to know that there are people that are from the Lone Star State. Another great conversation starter because you get to meet people from all over the country!

5. Do you have a Sports Pass?

This is my FAVORITE question!! I love sports and meeting people who love sports just as much as I do is amazing! I'm a sports media major, so of course I have a sports pass! It's fun to find out that my classmates spent the $250 as well because just like many universities, OSU is all about sports (which I'm not upset about). Don't worry, I'll be at every sporting event!

These were the main questions I was asked this week, and even though they were asked about ten thousand times I wasn't upset about it. These are great conversation starters at any school. It's a great way to get to know people! You never know how much you might actually have in common with a classmate. Instant BFFs, maybe?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
