The idea of living in a fictional world has always been something that appealed to me. Whether it's the fantasy worlds flourishing several types of magic, or futuristic worlds that sported some sort of augmented reality, there have been plenty of worlds that I have dreamt of living in. But if I’m going to be planning my dream vacation to this alternate universe where fictional worlds do in fact exist, then I'm going to be picky. That begins with figuring out which fictional worlds I would not want to be a part of:
1. "Attack on Titan."
The world of “Attack on Titan” is a world that nightmares are made of. Colossal human-like creatures that span between the size of a respectable home and a skyscraper inhabit this world. And what else would they do but squander any human society that may cross their paths? If I were to live in this world, one of two things would happen: I’d either be killed immediately, or I’d off myself out fear and hopelessness. Anyone who says that they’d be able to kill a Titan from “Attack on Titan” clearly does not recall the obscene amount of death and destruction that the Titans bring.
2. Any zombie apocalypse world.
In the same vein as “Attack on Titan,” I'm going to avoid destruction at all costs. Mostly mindless creatures whose only goal is to go from point A to point B and devour anything in its path is a no from me. I don’t get why people say they’d want to be in a world where a zombie apocalypse is the reality. What’re you going to do? Attempt survival while someone else tries to solve all the problems the world is facing? Yeah, no. That’s just stupid. Instead, I’ll be chilling six feet under resting peacefully for all of eternity.
3. "Game of Thrones."
Just about all of my knowledge of “Game of Thrones” comes from a single book and a mass amount of spoilers that I don’t really care about. But -- SPOILER ALERT -- people die left and right in this series. While living in a fantasy setting would be fantastic, I’d much rather live in a setting like Middle Earth and have fun times adventuring or living life in a Hobbit Hole than go through what I assume to be a very hellish world. If there’s one thing that I’ve learned from the world of “Game of Thrones,” it’s that absolutely nobody is safe. Not even the main characters.
4. "Neon Genesis Evangelion."
This is a world that is slightly more obscure than the others. “Neon Genesis Evangelion” is an older anime that came about in the mid-90s, and holy shit is the world that it takes place in miserable. The story is set in an alternate futuristic version of Japan where humanity has been taken over by what are referred to as “Angels.” These creatures take the form of alien lifeforms whose sole purpose for existing is to wipe out all of mankind. This world is a hot mess of insanity and terror on both psychological and physical fronts. Just about everyone you could ever like either turns out to be a giant dick or dies. Actually, scratch that. They all die. No one lives. This world is the absolute worst.
5. Any comic book universe.
My knowledge of the comic universe is one that comes directly from one of two sources: either a movie adaptation, or a friend who knows way too much about the topic. And from what I’ve seen in the movies and heard from others is that these worlds are packed to the brim with evil villains just waiting to destroy everything. Now, it’s one thing if I have a super power but the likelihood of that actually happening is close to zero percent. Let’s be honest: both you and I would be getting our city destroyed by Villain X because they got mad about the lack of evil that was in the air. Is that the kind of world that you want to live in? Because it sure as hell isn’t one that I’d like to visit, let alone live in.
So what I’ve realized about all the worlds that I wouldn’t want to live in is that they all involve mass amounts of death. I’d say that’s pretty fair of me, considering I would be choosing which fictional world I would want to live in.
What other worlds did I miss? Which ones are the absolute worst? Because so far, it seems like all of them are either borderline terrible or just plainly alright.
