On rainy days what could be more perfect than Netflix and your bed? Sometimes you have to let yourself wallow. Here are 5 of my favorite shows you won’t regret binge watching!
1. Hawaii Five-0
Hawaii 5-0, if you couldn’t take a guess, takes place in Hawaii. The 5-0 task force is an elite squad where commander Steve McGarrett and detective Danny Williams protect the aloha state. They face crimes from kidnappers to terrorists, but still make it down to Kamekona’s food truck for some ono grinds and a bottle of Longboard. Great laughs and suspense has made this show one of my all time favorites. If 5-0 doesn’t make you want to be a badass who runs around fighting crime, it’ll at least make you want to visit the islands. The shots they scale are out of this world. A definite watch.
2. That 70's show
That 70s show will always be my favorite comedic television series. The series follows a group of teenagers living in Wisconsin from 1976 to 1979. The majority of the time you’ll find the gang in the basement of Eric Forman’s house in a smoke circle, discussing their mistrust in the American government usually fueled by Steven Hyde. The show also touches base on social issues during the time such as the recession, war, sexism and drug use. Fun fact if you didn’t already know, Mila Kunis (who played Jackie Burkhart) lied when she auditioned and told them she was 18, while she was only 14. Her first kiss was then onscreen boyfriend Michael Kelso (played by Ashton Kutcher) who is now real life husband. Crazy how life turns out. From the laugh out loud jokes and the great rock 'n' roll music, this show always made me feel at home.
3. Sons Of Anarchy
The first time I caught a glimpse of SOA I thought it’d be something I wouldn't be interested in. And I have to admit the moment I saw Jax Teller, aka Charlie Hunnam, I had to watch it. I mean how could you not? So yes, the reason I jumped on was because of him, but I stayed because of how insane the show was. Most series last for 10 seasons or more to the point where they’re just making stuff up to stay a float. Sons had a great 7 seasons filled with the lives of an outlaw motorcycle club. The club originally dealt with fire arms and progressively got involved into the drug cartel which spirals way out of Jax’s vision for the club. Kurt Sutter, the creator of the series, did such a phenomenal job portraying the hardships Jax goes through from balancing being the President of the MC, being a father, and a husband. But as sad as it was saying goodbye to the end of SOA I could not commend a better ending to a series. Truly incredible, I could talk about this show for hours.
4. Charmed
Charmed was my entire childhood. One of my first ever memories of this show was probably when I was around 6 and I sat on the couch with my dad and he’d be watching Charmed and I remember instantly being attached to it. When I got a little older he started buying me one season at a time so we could watch it together. Fast forward 8 seasons and about 100 replays (I bet you think I’m joking) later I would’ve never bonded so well in gym class with my best friend if it wasn’t for our love over this show. Charmed is about 3 sister witches who come into their powers years later after their mother and grandmother have both passed on. They struggle with adjusting to their new life, new identities, and an entire world outside of San Francisco they never knew about. But if Charmed taught me anything it was the importance of family and being a strong independent woman who kicks ass.
5. Once Upon A Time
Disney will forever and always have one of the biggest parts of my heart. All the enchanting fairy tales combined together, what more could I ask for? The story focuses on Snow White’s daughter Emma, who was separated from her at birth, and the evil curse cast upon Storybrooke. The residents of the town are characters spread across from every fairy tale you’ve ever heard and Emma is the savior who will break the curse. The show follows the family through constant struggles and heart ache, but love and understanding always overcomes. The creators really amazed me with how well they connected one character from the next and how the magic in Disney will never die. OUAT is like the “adult” version of watching your favorite princess with a twist. If you’re a big Disney fan and you haven’t already, give it a chance! You won’t regret it.
