Ranking college basketball teams is something I love to do. I base it off of how I personally view the teams as a whole, not only on wins. Yes, I am a girl. Yes, I do know and follow basketball. These are my own opinions and are not affiliated with the AP Top 25 Poll or any other sports website/company.
1. UNC
Ranked #1 in the AP Preseason Poll, UNC is still #1 in my eyes. Reasons they might not have been "#1 material" is because of the loss of their star player, Marcus Paige for the start of the season before their December 1st game against Maryland. He is not the only stronger play on the team, with the help from Justin Jackson, Kennedy Meeks, Nate Britt, Joel Berry, Brice Jackson, and the rest of the squad. Roy Williams has been trying his best to keep his team in tip-top shape and they are doing just that! I see a very strong season for the Tar Heels and a trip to the Sweet 16 and possibly the final four.
2. Kentucky
Known for their almost undefeated season last year and a plethora of NBA lottery draft picks/picks, in general, Kentucky is one elite team. Coach John Calipari has a real eye for the game. Although this team has a lot to live up to last year's team, they are looking mighty strong. With freshmen Isaiah Briscoe and Skal Labissiere and returning Tyler Ulis, they are doing just that. Although they're already not an undefeated team, let's see how far they can go this year!
3. Duke
Back from winning it all last year and claiming that ring, Duke and Coach K are definitely trying to win it all again this year. After losing some big names and big players last year, like Jahlil Okafor and Trey Lyles, this team has a lot to live up to and they're doing a great job at that! With returner Grayson Allen on fire with the help of freshmen Brandon Ingram and Derryck Thorton, these boys are sure to get far!
4. Maryland
Maryland's team is extra strong this year, with the team mostly being made up of freshmen and sophomores. Returner Melo Trimble is looking awesome out there, as well as freshmen Diamond Stone and the rest of the team. Can they pull through it this year and make it to the Final Four? I don't have any doubt that they will!
5. Michigan State
The team that got to the finals last year but just couldn't overcome Duke. The team with some very strong and talents players, like Denzel Valentine and Marvin Clark Jr. This team, has a very high potential to go all the way to the finals once again and actually win this time. Will it be another Duke vs. Michigan State? That would be another good game!
