Top Five Books For Fall

Fall brings many things: Pumpkin spice lattes, haunted houses, hoodies and colorful leaves, but if you're anything like me, as the weather gets cooler, it's a better and better reason to sit near a window with a great book and a hot coffee. Books allow us to live vicariously through the words of another, so I've provided five of the best books and series that really get me into the fall spirit!

1. C.C. Hunter's "Shadow Falls" Series

I have to admit I'm a huge fan of sci-fi, fantasy love-stories. I know, I know, it's a total cliché, but this is one of the best series I've read in a very long time. If you like werewolves, vampires, witches and love triangles all shrouded in the air of mystery, this series is one for you!

2. Gillian Flynn's "Dark Places"

"Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered..." Most of these books are definitely mysteries (I mean, who doesn't love a mystery in the fall anyways?), but I promise they are the best books I've read. This book is written by the author of "Gone Girl," which is also an amazing read, but this book has an extremely ominous overtone, which makes the reader sit on the edge of their seat, definitely getting into the Halloween spirit.

3. James Patterson's "Confessions of a Murder Suspect"

"She can't trust anyone. Maybe not even herself." This book is written by one of my favorite authors! It's another great book to set up murder as a huge theme for the fall season. How could you not with Halloween coming up?! This book is great for those who like to piece together the mystery as they're given all the information.

4. Becca Fitzpatrick's "Hush, Hush" Series

"A sacred oath, a fallen angel, a forbidden love." Another amazing page-turner made for the sci-fi lovers who don't mind a love story that continues to be in the making. It's a fantastic series that will absolutely have you hooked if you are anything like me! I could read them in a day if I had the time.

5. Greg Iles' "Natchez Burning"

This book is a historical fiction book that throws so many things together that could potentially be linked. It's set in the present but is completely intertwined with the "dark days of the 1960s." Race, murder and more than enough suspense create a sense of urgency that is palpable with the reader!

All of these books are great reads for any season, I just happen to tie them in to the season of mystery--fall! All of these books make the reader think and ponder things they normally wouldn't, especially if mysteries are a genre of interest! I'm a firm believer that there's an avid reader in all of us, sometimes we just need the right book to find that out.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
