If you are anything like I am, you put a lot of thought into your workout song choices. Whether out for a run or killin’ it in the gym this music will help you create the perfect sweat session. You need the beats and lyrics that will pump you up (literally) and inspire you! You don’t have to keep changing your music make a playlist with these awesome, beat-dropping songs.
Here are some of my favorite songs that never disappoint:
1. Booyah by Showtek ft. We Are Loud & Sonny Wilson
This song has a reggae-like voiceover throughout, but the actual music has some great beat drops. It is a great EDM song that you have heard, or will hear, at parties. The instrumentals in this song are like no other. You will not want to stop running or lifting if you are listening to this in the gym. There is a slow part of the song at the beginning that gives you some time to focus on your breathing, then it picks up and it will give you the chills when the beat drops.
Dawin is not a very well known artist yet. I love his smooth voice, and his songs are very different and catchy. In this particular song, I really like his voice and the fresh, trap music beat. I mean, I am kind of biased because I like everything about this song. But, it strangely sounds like a baby alien. The song makes you want to dance and maybe visit outer space? However, I feel like dance music, outer space music and workout music somewhat go hand-in-hand, right?
I personally like this song when I am on the rowing machine for crew. “Drop it Low” is the line that appears a lot in this song. What a surprise, right? In crew, you are supposed to have a low split. I won’t get into what that means. Pretty much you just want to go fast and get your numbers down. So, in the middle of a rowing (erg) piece, I like to hear this song to remind me to drop my split low. The beat and the lyrics “drop it low” are very inspiring and give you the impression that someone is actually talking to you and cheering you on.
4. Get Up (Rattle) by Bingo Players ft. Far East Movement
Far East Movement has some pretty sick songs. I like this one because the beat is so alive and “Get up” just seems to be a line that gets you pumped up and in the right mood for anything ... even dreaded burpees or squats.
5. You Know You Like It by DJ Snake & AlunaGeorge
This is a fairly new addition to my workout playlist. It starts out with AlunaGeorge singing and a nice and simple beat. She has a really cool voice, and it’s fun to sing along to if you can master her accent. I am pretty good at doing the accent, but I don’t mean to brag. It then picks up and has some excellent beat drops. Most songs by DJs or EDM artists have really good beat drops, which make them ideal to work out to.
I have heard this song in a couple of movie soundtracks. It is an alternative type song, but it has a really strong and gleeful beat. The instrumentals in this song will be sure to get you into a good state of mind. The lyrics “Do what you don’t do” are inspirational while you're working out because they make you want to work hard and do what you aren’t used to doing or achieving something you feel is insurmountable.
7. I Can’t Stop by Flux Pavilion
The beginning of this song gives you a second to breathe. I recommend putting this song towards the end of your playlist when you feel like you are about to die. The song starts out very low, and then the beat picks up, and the lyrics “I can’t stop” are very redundant and prevalent in the song. So, play this song to remind you that you can’t stop even though you really may want to pass out and never work out again. Just think about how good you will feel and look!
8. Chicken Fried by Zac Brown Band
This goes out to all my country fans, y’all. Country? Country to work out to? Yeah, I know. Weird, huh? I would have never thought I would be one to recommend country to listen to, let alone work out to. I used to think I hated country music. It still isn’t my favorite genre, but now I actually enjoy some country music in moderation. This summer I was forced to listen to country music while on the rowing machine, and this one stuck with me. I love this song and the lyrics. It’s just a feel good, chill song that you will appreciate. Even if you don’t care for your chicken fried, a nice pair of jeans or a beer on a Friday night, you will like this song ... probably.
9. Let’s Go by: Trick Daddy feat. Big D & Twista
Y’all ready to play some football? “Let’s go!” This song gets you pumped no matter what your chosen sport is. There is just something about this song that cries out football to me. It’s loud and screamy and occasionally annoying, but the beat is great and intense and makes you want to put in the extra work to achieve your goals. “Do one more,” like the Gatorade commercials tell you to do.
10. Get Low by Dillon Francis and DJ Snake
DJ Snake is back on the list; clearly I am a huge fan. Dillon Francis is also impressive. This song has a cool Arabic style folkie sound to it. This song has been very popular in fitness classes (especially Zumba) because of the catchy beat. Just one listen, and you will know why I love it.
11. Shell Shocked by Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa & Ty Dolla $ign (ft. Kill the Noise & Madsonik)
I am probably one of the biggest rap fans you will ever meet. Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa are both pretty cool. I mean I don’t know them personally, but I am very fond of their music. But, don’t fret. This is not really a rap song. It is actually from "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." It reminds me of my crew team because it talks a lot about them being your family. It has a really good building beat. And just a little fun fact for you ... I know the girl singing in the background, Moxie. Yeah, my mom taught her how to dance when her name was Laura.
12. Play Hard by David Guetta (feat. Ne-Yo & Akon)
“Hey, said a hustler's work is never through we makin' it 'cause we make it move. Work hard, play hard.” Lyrics are really important in workout songs. You don’t want sad music that makes you want to cry when you are trying to bust a move and make some gains. So, listen to some music with inspiration and meaning!
13. Boneless by Steve Aoki, Chris Lake, and Tujamo
Just your typical awesome song with a cool beat. Steve Aoki is a cool dude and I really like his music because it’s distinct and energetic. It has a really good vibe. He really needs a haircut, though.
14. Helena Beat by Foster the People
Who doesn’t like some pumped up kicks and Foster the People? This song is all about holding on and pushing through obstacles. Along with the quality lyrics, comes a quality beat. So, add this to your playlist even if you aren’t a huge Foster the People fan.
15. Cinema by Benny Benassi (Skrillex Radio Edit)
This song is definitely one of my favorites. When I first started rowing, this song was always played during our pieces. Skrillex can be ... scary. Well, it can be a lot to take in, but some of their music is definitely worth listening to. The beat drops, and you just kind of zone things out when you listen to it.
16. My Body by Young the Giant
Now, I know Young the Giant may not sound like the coolest name in the world, but this song is actually great. When you work out your body will tell you no, but you should not quit, and you will not quit once you listen to this song. You won’t quit because the lyrics tell you not to quit.
The music that you listen to in the gym, on the treadmill or on a track should speak to you and assist you. Everyone loves music. Well, I mean most people do. If you don’t like music, then that is just weird, and even stranger if you don’t like music when you work out. What is good about these songs is that they are not only good to listen to while working out, but they are also just good songs to listen to in general. So, put your earphones in, pump up the jams and enjoy this awesome playlist for working out.
