We all await the summer with a sparkle in our eyes as it nears. We constantly think about the warm weather, being free of homework, and the friends and family we are about to reunite with. We get so stoked about what is to come, but sometimes we don't think about what we are going to do once we get back to the home town. What activities can we do? Where can we go for fun? That's what this article is all about; things to do over the summer that are fun but don't cost a lot of money. The key part of the phrase being they don't cost a lot of money. A college student's favorite thing to hear.
We will call this, the "Cheap Summer Bucket List."
1. Play the Penny Game.
What is the Penny Game you ask? You and a friend get in the car, ask your friend to pick a number between one and fifteen. Whatever number they pick, that's how many turns they will take while driving. Every time you come to an intersection, flip the Penny, heads is turning left, tails is turning right. Once you have turned the amount of times that you originally picked when entering the car, you will pick a place to hangout or eat near that intersection. It's interesting and makes for a good story!
2. Go camping for just one night with your friends.
If you are not the camping type of person, have no fear. You and your friends can just pitch a tent in your backyard and call it camping! This is a good bonding experience and fun for being such a simple activity! Think of it as a slumber party outside, that's all!
3. Have a TV series marathon.
On a rainy day, pick your favorite show and just binge watch it the whole day. The perks being it's very low in cost (if there's a cost at all), you don't even have to change out of your pajamas, and there's no pressure to get all dolled up to go out. My personal suggestions for this binge watching excursion on your couch include "Gilmore Girls" and "One Tree Hill." Definitely worth it.
4. Take a day to yourself and read a book.
Do you have a book you are dying to read or a book you have already read, but you are in love with it? This is your time to read it! Spend the day reading whatever book you choose, sit outside in the warmth, and relax; it's a win, win.
5. Fourth of July adventure.
If you are a fireworks fanatic, this one is for you! On the 4th of July, there are fireworks everywhere. Take a mini roadtrip to towns and cities nearest to you and try and see as many fireworks as possible. This is a simple but fun little escape.
6. Volunteer at your nearest Humane Society.
It's always nice to volunteer your time for organizations in need, but to volunteer your time to help animals makes for such an eye-opening day.
7. Donate your time to an organization of your choosing.
There are so many nonprofit organizations and charities that would love some extra volunteers. Grab some friends, or just go by yourself, to an organization that helps those in need. You won't regret it.
8. Go on a bike ride.
Bikes are a perfect way to get exercise, but also a great way to enjoy the summer weather! Biking to anywhere around your town could be fun on a nice day. Drag some friends or your family out of the house and enjoy the sun!
9. Go fishing with your boyfriend or friends.
If you are not a fisherwoman, don't worry I wasn't either; fishing isn't as boring as you think. This is awesome for some peaceful, quality time with your man or with your friends; embrace it!
10. Go to a local park.
Go to a local park and play some tennis or basketball; sports get you moving in a fun and not so straightforward exercise kind of way! Even if you're not a professional at these sports, it's okay! It can still be fun and it makes for a good laugh at the end of the day!
11. Have a bonfire.
Invite your friends over for a bonfire to tell all your college stories and catch up with them! This is great for those who love storytelling and games around the campfire. Well worth the price of the marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate, for a classic s'more to top the night off with.
The summer is all about making memories with the ones you love, so why not do it the inexpensive way? The summer adventures await, so get moving!
