Maine is one of the most beautiful summer destinations to vacation. Perfect for couples, families, and anyone in between, the opportunities are endless. Water activities include canoeing, kayaking, fishing and boating. On land you can bike, hike, shop, eat, sightsee and more. With gorgeous coastlines and beaches to explore, and cute centers of town to visit, there is no way to go wrong when vacationing in Maine. With all of the places to choose from, here are some must see locations.

1. Acadia National Park

This coastal attraction is home to beautiful streams, lakes and forest. For those who visit, the park offers hiking trails for all skill levels as well as two campgrounds and endless scenic views.

2. Old Port

Filled with tons of shops, restaurants, bars and clubs, Old Port is a great place to spend a day or weekend. In June, you can even experience the annual Old Port Festival, filled with food and music.

3. Casco Bay

You can take the Casco Bay Ferry to many islands, such as Diamond and Peaks Island. Filled with shopping, beaches and great seafood, these islands are the perfect way to spend the day.

4. Ogunquit

With its name meaning "beautiful place by the sea," Ogunquit is just that. From beaches, to a town center, to art galleries and a playhouse, Ogunquit is a great vacation destination.

5. Bar Harbor

At low tide, this main land connects to Bar Island via sandbar. Right by Arcadia National Park, Bar Harbor offers hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking and many more adventures.

6. Boothbay Harbor

What was once a shipping port is now a gorgeous and popular summer destination. Fishing, boating, antiquing and jewelry shopping are among the many activities available.

7. Kennebunkport

The attractions are endless here, from sight seeing to eating to shopping. With streets filled with clothing, jewelry, souvenir, and toy stores, you are guaranteed to be entertained for days. Beyond this are famous sights such as the Bush compound, the summer home of former president H.W. Bush and his family.

8. Old Orchard Beach

Arguably the "Jersey Shore" of Maine, OOB is a typical tourist attraction. It is home to a center of town with an amusement park, pier, arcade, tourist shops and food. With lively nightlife and fireworks on the beach every Thursday, there is always something going on.

9. Freeport

Freeport is known for its outlet shopping, one of the most popular destinations being the L.L. Bean outlet. The outlet also offers many recreational day trips such as skeet shooting and archery.

10. Cape Elizabeth

This historic town is home to many lighthouses and state parks that one can explore, not to mention the incredible views.
