11 Reasons Why Being At The Beach Is The Best Part of Summer

I know you'll run into the occasional person who "hates the beach," or at least claims to, but the beach is just a beautiful place. From coast to coast people from everywhere come to vacation at the shore, can you blame them?

The following are reasons why the beach is the best part of summer.

1. The beach is beautiful

Lets face it, the world we live on is beautiful. One clip of the beach, in particular, can be breathtaking. Everything at the beach – for the most part – is so real.

2. Sunrises and sunsets on the beach are the best.

I'm sure most of you have those memories of being on the beach for a sunset or rise. I remember many from growing up, and I love every one. I remember some from being with my mom, sister and family. We went to the Cape every single summer, and that's where my love for the beach probably started.

3. Beach games that keep you occupied for way too long.

Frisbee, volleyball, T-ball or even new games like Kan Jam and spike ball are all popular beach games. Everyone has their own favorite game. I have great memories while playing most of those games.

4. It's also educational.

No, seriously, though, the beach is the perfect place to throw in a couple of facts. There is so much to learn about the beach and ocean, and it always kept my attention.

5. The beach is so eye-opening.

Its pretty crazy to be at a shore line sometimes. You realize how small in this world you really are. There is such more life out there – in the ocean or across seas. Seriously, though, whales are ginormous compared to us. But a serious note, being at the shore really does open your eyes. In that moment, you're able to just clear your mind.

6. Swimming

I grew up on the Atlantic Ocean. I know, it's not tropical blue oceans and palm trees. I grew up spending my summers at Cape Cod, and the waters were pretty dark. I grew up in those dark waters, and I swam my whole day at the beach. It wasn't until I went on vacation and experienced Caribbean ocean, I realize that water and environment was like a whole new world. Swimming in that clear water was one of my favorite things about being on vacation.

7. Sunbathing

It's one thing to sunbathe by a pool, in a backyard or by a lake. I love everything about each of those, but sunbathing at the beach is on a whole new level. Getting a tan, laying down and relaxing to the sound of the waves is a plus.

8. Family/friend time

Being at the beach means all distractions are put away and having a good time! Growing up, I loved building sand castles, catching small fish and swimming. Beach time was always family and friends time. We had our chairs in a "U," and we would have a good time, laughing and taking trips down memory lane. Now, as an older adult, I find myself always surrounded by people I love when I go to the beach. Where's the music!?

9. Getting the perfect beach picture

Maybe it's just a girl thing, but getting the perfect beach picture is on every girl's mind come summer. I search Tumblr and see so many pretty beach pictures. Come the end of summer, I always make sure I have enough pictures. I'm sure you can think of one or two of your favorites.

10. Interactions with wildlife is a moment to cherish.

Whether it's looking for fish, crabs or quahogs, you were always entertained. I know some people don't like looking for marine life, but I loved it growing up. Today, I'll never pass up a time to catch little crabs.

11. Beach towns have amazing histories.

Yeah, getting a little nerdy here. Their ports and marinas have a story to tell. The light houses you see, they have a story, too. Have you ever been interested in pirates and ships?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
