This year has been a tough one, but one thing that got me through was music. Music has always been huge in my life, so I decided to compile my top 10 songs that help me get through life.
1. "Swimming in the Moonlight"- Bad Suns
Bad Suns has become one of my favorite bands over the past two years. They are an upcoming rock band from Los Angeles with a nostalgic nod to 80’s rock bands like The Cure. The lyrics, written by front man Christo Bowman, create a wonderful love ballad that would make any girl swoon. This song came from their sophomore album, Disappear Here.
2. "Swim"- Fickle Friends
The perfect summer love song! This song is best listened to by the poolside, but a nice car ride will do too. Nothing is better than a British indie-pop band, especially when the vocals are incredibly beautiful.
3. "Scars to Your Beautiful"- Alessia Cara
I want to be Alessia Cara when I grow up. This is a total self-love, empowering song that tells people to love themselves. So often society tells us what we look like is not good enough. Cara challenges this through the song. Cara also performs this song with no make-up, which is huge in an industry that stresses the importance of looking perfect. The music video is almost better than the song, which is a hard feat.
4. "Broken Roots"- Michl
This song has a very somber, almost Troye Sivan vibe about it. A great break up song about putting more into a relationship than what you ever get. It’s definitely a rainy day post-breakup song.
5. "Holy"- PVRIS
What a song. This is the perfect song for the guy that just totally sucks! When somebody can’t take a hint, treat you wrong, or are just jerks. This is a good ballad to sing when your pride may have been hurt and you just need to let it out.
6. "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” The Smiths
This song is just for when you have hope. Hope for the future, the budding romance; hope for anything. Sometimes, you just feel like you need this one thing to help make your life better. Plus, who doesn’t want to listen to Morrissey serenade them?
7. "Adventure of a Lifetime”- Coldplay
The perfect road trip song by my favorite band. This song has a great melody and is catchy without the overly-poppy edit some songs have.
8. "This Town"- Niall Horan
A song about going home and remembering the good times that were had, the love that was shared, and the past reminding you of it all.
9. "Closer"- Chainsmokers featuring Halsey
This has to be on the list. You are lying to yourself if you didn’t sing this in your car a bit too loud. It has a great beat and Halsey’s vocals sound wonderful, as always.
10. "Ease” Troye Sivan featuring Broods (Lontalius Remix)
Troye Sivan is already an amazing artist and I didn’t think this song could get any better, but this remix perfectly remixes a great song and transforms it into another form of wonderful.
