It is that time of year people and all we want is the crunchy leaves, cooler weather, and most of all pumpkin flavored...everything. We all love pumpkin flavored coffee, cookies, pie, cereal, and many more fall treats. So to welcome in this season, I decided to have a lighter tone this week and give you the top 10 fun facts about pumpkins.

1. Pumpkins are scientifically a fruit.

Due to pumpkins having seeds, they are considered a fruit. Makes sense why pumpkin can be made into a pie. No one would want a vegetable pie.

2. Pumpkins are a type of squash.

Not a huge squash fan, don't think we would like squash spiced lattes either.

3. In the United States alone, over 1 billion pounds of pumpkins each year.

Rather you carve, cook, or smash, that is a lot of pumpkins that people crave every Fall!

4. There are 500 seeds in a single pumpkin!

With packing a lot of vitamin A and were considered medicine by Native Americans, you can be sure there are plenty of seeds to go around!

5. Pumpkins were once believed to get rid of freckles.

Not really sure why this was believed to work, but if you don't like your freckles, you may want to give this a shot.

6. Pumpkins originated from central America.

The first pumpkin seeds were founded in Mexico roughly between 7000 BC - 5500BC. Pumpkin could be reaching it's 9000th birthday fairly soon!

7.the Pilgrim made pumpkin beer.

After working in the new found land, why not head over to your local Starbucks for a pumpkin spiced beer. Pilgrims had Starbucks back then right?

8. Jack-O-Lanterns were originally carved from turnips and potatoes.

That's pretty lame having carved turnips at your front door.

9.The largest pumpkin weighed 1.140 pounds!

10. The largest pumpkin pie was five feet diameter, 350pounds, 80 pounds of pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, and 12 dozen eggs.
