It is the most wonderful time of the year, that’s right ladies and gents, it is Christmas time. Now if you’re like me, you have probably been counting down the days until it was officially okay to start listening to Christmas music. But most of all, you have been counting down the days until the best event of the holiday season starts, ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas. It is hard to say which Christmas movie is better than the other, but I think this list will help you narrow down the best choices.
10. Fred Claus:
Any movie with Vince Vaughn or Paul Giamatti is bound to be a good one. But when Paul Giamatti is Santa Claus and Vince Vaughn is his brother, then you know it is going to end up being a Christmas classic. If you haven’t seen the movie, Santa Claus is letting his brother, Fred, work for him so he can earn enough money to open a new club. A few problems come along, but you are sure to laugh and enjoy this movie from start to finish.
9. NATIONAL LAMPOON’S CHRISTMAS VACATION:
If this isn’t on your list of Christmas movies to see I highly advice you add it. A holiday favorite that is bound to keep you laughing from start to finish.
8. Home Alone 1 and 2: Lost in New York:
Spending the weekend alone when your parents are out of town is pretty cool. But spending the weekend alone when it is Christmas and two burglars are trying to break into your house, maybe not so much. Kevin McCallister is mistakenly left behind when his family went to a trip to Paris. What he first thought to be a dream come true ended up becoming his worst nightmare, when two burglars end up trying to break in and steal everything in his house. Little did they know this 8 year old was smarter then he looked. The second follows Kevin to New York City where he is lost in New York and needs to find his way back to his family in time for the holidays. This sequel is a must see.
7. Rudolf The Red Nose Reindeer:
You know Dasher and Dancer,
And Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid, And Donner and Blitzen. But do you recall....
The most famous reindeer of all? If you do not know this classic story, I am going to be very concerned. Every child knows the story of the red-nosed reindeer that saved Christmas by guiding Santa’s slay through the dark and cloudy sky.
6. Santa Claus is Coming to Town:
What better way to learn about the history about Santa Claus than to learn about St. Nick himself. The story takes place in Sombertown, where the mayor Burgermeister Meisterburger bans the Claus family from delivery toys to the children of the town. Through out the whole movie all your questions about why Santa Claus goes down the chimney, or why stockings are used for toys are answered. The movie is only an hour long, but it is worth your time, it will put you in the holiday mood and excited for the Christmas season.
5. A Year Without A Santa Claus:
Do not let the name fool you, because this is a happy movie. When Santa gets sick and almost wants to cancel Christmas, Mrs. Claus and the elves take matters into their own hands and try to save the holiday. With catchy songs like Heat Miser and Snow Miser you are bound to dance and sing along the whole time. Yes I may be 20 years old, but I will always sit down and watch this movie whenever it is on.
4. The Polar Express:
Based off of the famous Christmas book written by Chris Van Allsburg, the movie follows three young kids going on a train to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus. What is great about this movie is how it is not like every other Christmas movie, it isn't about presents, or finding love on Christmas, it is about believing. And of course Tom Hanks is in it, and every movie he is in is bound to be a good one. Get your hot chocolate out and ready to drink when the song, "hot chocolate" comes on.
3. The Grinch That Stole Christmas:
Based off of Dr. Seuss’ book, Jim Carrey plays the evil Grinch that wants to steal Christmas from the town, HooVile. But when a little girl tries to change the Grinch, and make him learn to love Christmas, more harm than good is done. Jim Carrey gives this old classic a modern touch with his great sense of humor and makes the movie enjoyable for all ages.
2. The Santa Claus 1, 2 &3 :
This Christmas trilogy has grown to become more loved each and every year. Tim Allen, who plays Scott Calvin, scares Santa when he is delivering presents to his house and ends up making him fall off of the roof. Without knowing the rules that came next he put on Santa’s suit and ends up becoming the new Santa Claus. All three movies follow Santa and the struggles the come along with being Santa for the world as well as being a dad to his own son. Take a Sunday and watch all three of these movies, it will take you back to your childhood days and make you believe again.
1. Elf:
I mean this one is a no-brainer, and if you haven’t seen Elf then I am seriously concerned as to why you haven’t. Will Ferrell plays a man who was raised by elves his whole life, having no idea that he wasn’t one. He soon learns the truth about who he is, and who his father is, and travels to New York City to find his real father and hopefully build a relationship. I promise you that if you take the time to sit down and watch this movie you will not be disappointed. Will Ferrell will make you laugh the whole time as he learns what it is like to learn how to not be an Elf, and learn to be a “normal” person like everyone else.
