The Top 10 Binge-Worthy Shows You Could Be Watching

Finding yourself bored on summer break? Without classes you find yourself having more free time then ever. Scrolling through Netflix trying to find something to watch, but not finding exactly what you're looking for. Here are my top 10 TV show suggestions for anyone out there looking for something good to watch.

1. Black Mirror

https://www.netflix.com/search?q=black&jbv=70264888&jbp=0&jbr=0

This show is nothing like you've ever seen before. It will confuse you, excite you, and make you so curious. Each episode is its story, each story has its own meaning. That's what's so genius about the show, because you can't look away, you have to watch every second to soak up each unique plot line. The episodes bring up new ideas that you can't even imagine, things that make you think about them for days on end. It's a great thought provoking show for anyone who is open minded.

2. Man In The High Castle

The concept around this show is if the allies had lost WWII and Germany and Japan ruled the United States. If you love history and enjoy thinking about how one small rift in time could change everything, than this is the show for you. I've only watched most of the first season but I was immediately hooked when I stumbled upon this show.

3. Shameless

https://www.netflix.com/search?q=shameless&jbv=70184207&jbp=0&jbr=0

This show took me a bit to come around too, it's like nothing I've ever seen before. The show goes through a families life on the south side of Chicago, including all the struggles and crazy things that happen to all of the family members. In the beginning, I wasn't that into the show, but as it progresses you start to feel for the characters and begin to love them as if they are your friends.

4. Switched At Birth

https://www.netflix.com/?jbv=70189301&jbp=5&jbr=11

This show is about two girls who were switched at birth, both live drastically different lives. One is from a rich family and lives in a huge house, while the other is deaf living in a poorer neighborhood with her mother and grandma. One of the girls decides to get a DNA test when she realizes she doesn't have the same blood type as her parents. She then finds out that the people she has called her parents her whole life aren't her real parents. This show represents the blending of two cultures: deaf and hearing. The hearing family has to learn how to act around a deaf individual. The show also has a lot of overly dramatic moments that keep you captivated throughout.

5. Portlandia

https://www.netflix.com/?jbv=70185015&jbp=0&jbr=11

Alright if you haven't seen this show, I'm seriously begging you... Please watch it! This show is seriously genius, like I couldn't ask for such a funny and amazing show. Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein are two of my favorite actors. Their comedy is genius and acting in general is amazing. Please just watch one episode, I promise you won't be disappointed.

6. Louie

https://www.netflix.com/?jbv=70179977&jbp=12&jbr=11

If you like Louie C.K., great humor, and cute children. This is a show for you, Louie is a show where you get an inside look into Louie's life. The story line is ironic and hilarious. It's one of those shows that you can turn on and just laugh. You can eat a bunch of food while watching and just chill out and watch Louie's life unfold.

7. The Twilight Zone

https://www.netflix.com/?jbv=70172488&jbp=2&jbr=12

Not only is there a marathon of this show every New Year's Eve on the SyFy channel but it's also on Netflix which makes me so excited. This classic show is one of the best SyFy shows of all time. It keeps you questioning every second and keeps you interested even in its black and white form.

8. The Secret Life Of The American Teenager

https://www.netflix.com/?jbv=70155582&jbp=3&jbr=11

I bet you're thinking "Wow I watched this when I was in middle school." Okay I get it, I'm kind of behind the times. I wasn't allowed to watch shows like this as a teenager, so here I am becoming 'cultured'. I told myself I was only going to watch this show until she told her mom she was pregnant. Three months later I had watched the entire thing, and fell in love with Shailene Woodley as an actor. If you haven't watched it yet and are looking for a dramatic coming of age show, I would suggest this one for sure.

9. Parks and Rec

https://www.netflix.com/?jbv=70143842&jbp=1&jbr=11

This show is one of those shows that is very debated. I ask people all the time if they've seen the show and some people love it and others say "ehh, it wasn't my thing." I personally love it, maybe it's because Amy Pohler is besties with Tina Fey. Or that the show is just genius, the humor is awkward, the show rewards you with little things as it goes along. You get so invested in the characters that you just can't stop watching.

10. Flash Forward

A show lost in the shuffle that is honestly such an interesting concept. I was first introduced to this show in a class called TV genres - which is as awesome as it sounds. After watching the first episode in class I was hooked and have been working my way through the series ever since. I don't want to spoil anything, so just click the link.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
