Dear Reader,
Sometimes the world will seem like a dark and dreary place. Some days, it will seem like every force in the universe is against you. We all struggle and face hard times in our lives. As a result, sometimes it will seem impossible to go on with our everyday activities.
It is important to remember that no matter how difficult our troubles are, or how complicated our lives may be, there is always something to be grateful for. Being grateful, though easier said than done when you are in a tough spot, is a rewarding habit and can often be a saving grace -- or a glimmer of hope in an otherwise painful situation.
In my short life, I have faced a lot of adversity, like anyone else. From the death of close family members, to loss of friends, and battles with anxiety and depression, I've been through the wringer as much as the next person.
I'm grateful for my family and my friends who have always supported me and loved me unconditionally. I am grateful for my pets. I'm grateful that I have a warm bed, and a roof over my head, food on the table, and a car that gets me where I need to go. I'm grateful for my job, and for the opportunity to be able to go to college. I'm grateful for each day I wake up healthy, and for the stability I experience in my life. I'm grateful for the unique opportunities I get to experience at school, such as being able to work in a radio station, dance, and teach others as a TA.
Whether or not you are going through hard times, I encourage you to take this challenge, and mentally list five things you are grateful for each day. With a new positive outlook, you may find the smaller everyday problems of your life fading away, and this may give you more energy to combat life's real struggles.
If you are currently going through a tough period of your life, please keep going. I wish you the best of luck. Please know that you are not alone. And most of all, please don't forget to be grateful for all that you have.
Love,
Sarah
