An Open Letter To The Tired College Student

So what do we do, when the end of the semester seems forever away and waking up to another day of college is horrendously daunting?

It's 1:28 A.M. and there are two things on your mind: Domino's pizza and your bed. But there are still four other things to scratch off your sticky notes, 423 words left to your research paper, a chapter to read, and that Tax Turbo thing to fill out. In six hours you have to get up and go to work, finish that last editing draft, rush to class, take that Algebra quiz, pick up that package, and somehow fit in a workout. You don't know if you want to sleep, take a shower, or get in your car and drive to Canada. Canada seems nice. You Pinterest Canada. And half an hour and fifty pins later, you find yourself googling "Jobs that don't require a college degree."

If you're a college student at this time of year, this cycle has most likely repeated itself the last few nights. I don't know about you, but I've asked myself if this is worth it, because honestly, I'm tired.

I'm tired of working and studying my butt off to only get a C, I'm tired of not having time for the things I love, I'm tired of bills and my stupid color coordinated calendar. I mean, Steve Jobs never graduated from college, right? Ended up with a net worth of $11 billion. WHY AM I HERE?

Ah.

But when I google Steve Jobs or other people, three words string through my mind, causing me to exhale every complaint and slowly bring myself back to my senses:

"Remember your dream."

Remember your dream- that etching, wild, and necessary dream that keeps you awake at night. That dream that causes your adrenaline to hype and consistently blows your mind.

For some of you, it's medicine. You can't wait until you get to walk through the halls of the hospital, holding a patient's info on a clipboard or rush into the ER room.

For some of you, it's teaching. You can't wait until the day you get to spend pouring ideas and concepts into students, changing their lives like other teachers did for you.

Or it may be the day you open a rehab center, coach football, or become CEO. Some of you dream of singing in front of thousands, some of you dream of being featured on a magazine. Some of you want to invent the next Apple product, others of you want to become a police officer, a baker, a physical therapist, or lawyer.

Do we realize how insane these dreams are? Like how crazy, that each of us are wired differently with different talents and interests, longing to put our hands to work? Whether on a keyboard,a sketch book, a construction project or designing clothes. Nonetheless, there are dreams inside of us, urging us to remember: we are made with purpose, and we are made to change this world.

So what do we do, when the end of the semester seems forever away and waking up to another day of college is horrendously daunting?

Sit down, breathe, listen to your pounding heart, and remember your dream.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
