To the one who is always there for others,
You are more than just a listener.
You are warmth, compassion, insight, strength, aspiration. You are the solid boulder in a crumbling life, you are the steady hand for someone to grab. You are more than just an ear to lend, you are filled with so many lessons, so much advice, so many things to be said. You are more than just a friend, and I am sorry that some don’t see that. I am sorry that there aren’t always people to offer you a steady hand to grab, not everyone can handle the weight of a boulder.
They come to you because they know you’ll listen. They come to you because they know you have been through situations similar. They come to you because they know you’re strong enough to handle the emotions of others. They come, you give insight, you share your strength and they leave. This happens often, with the same people, on the same cycle, like a song on replay. And you are always left sitting there with triggered emotions and the weight of some else’s burdens on your shoulders.
You may be a boulder, but every boulder has cracks, and that’s okay. It is okay to need a break from listening to people’s problems. You are allowed to have feelings too, you can feel sad and you can ask for help. You are entitled to “bad days,” and the “stay in bed days.” It’s okay to vent to someone about what’s going on, you need to let things out so you can continue to help others. You are only as strong as your mental state. You need to find someone who is willing to be your rock, and I hope you find that. You need to find someone who despite their cracks, will lend a grabbing hand to pull you up. It’s hard, but you are strong.
Do not let them fool you into thinking you are just a listener, you are so much more than that. You are the reason some people are still on this earth, you are the reason people are living their lives, and you are the reason people are happy.
You are warmth, compassion, strength, and aspiration.
