To The Girls I Have Met While Drinking Or Crying (Or Both)

As a girl who loves to socially drink (and I guess openly cry) I have met a lot of other women who have just shown me that girl-hate is starting to end. I am a very social person, and when you mix that in with alcohol or heartbreak friendships start to brew. Some friendships have lasted a long time. Some however, are only for the night.

I share a bond with girls when I’m drinking with them, or I cry in front of them. The reason why is that I am being incredibly vulnerable in both of these states. And for some reason, when I am past my limit or crying (again, or both...) girls tend to comfort me. Girls flock to other girls who have had a few in public. And girls flock to a crying girl too. Girls just want to comfort each other when they see that another girl is in a lonely state.

The brevity of experiences I have with some of these girls is what makes the experience all the better, sometimes. I don’t know enough about them to dislike or like them. But in those moments, I appreciate them. I appreciate every girl who has ever complimented me while in a bar or threatened to beat a guy up while I’m crying.

When it comes to crying, there are so many examples of women who I met in that moment who have cheered me up. Like the girl who comforted me in my high school bathroom when my long term boyfriend broke up with me. I will never know her name. I barely remember what she looks like. But she was there for me! She could have easily left the bathroom. But no, this amazing girl comforted me and even offered to steal every girl he wanted.

As far as drinking with girls, that’s another experience of bonding. I have been on so many girls Snapchat stories with the caption of “I love this girl!!!” and I will never see her again. All these girls want to do is hang out and have fun. Being drunk with girls is amazing because they will tell you all about their life without knowing who you are. And you can do the same to them. The most important thing I love about drunk girls is that they are very protective of other girls. They recognize that girls are vulnerable, so when a danger emerges they will protect each other like a flock of geese protecting the youngins.

Don’t underestimate the power that other girls have. Don’t shy away from some experiences just because you’re scared. We all think that other girls are out to get us, but that’s not the case. We want to help each other, especially when another one of our own is hurting or alone.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
