To The Girl Who Hates Herself And Her Life

I know it’s hard; you feel like everyone in the world hates you and that you’re alone. Trust me when I say you’re not. There’s so many people that love and support you. You may not see it but trust me they are there. I know it’s hard to look at the positives and try to make yourself happy but one day you will get there. It may not be today or tomorrow or even next month but one day you will get better. It’s hard to see the good things in life when all your mind wants you to see is the negative.

I understand the feeling of “I should be happy there’s so many things I should be happy about” but you will get past that feeling one day and most days are going to feel like you have two twenty pound sandbags sitting on you every time you wake up in the morning. But once you get up and push through the day you can put that in the positive side of things.

Make a list of things that make you happy, even if it only makes you smile for two seconds write it down. Having things that can make you happy when you feel down is a great thing. Read a book you’ve always wanted to read. If that feels like too much to do read a couple of pages and then go from there. Also, write how your feeling down sometimes it’s better to get the thoughts out of your head and onto paper. And if those thoughts are really bad thought just rip them up and throw them out.

You can fight this; I know you can. Even if you need to reach out to someone to get help, it will be worth it. Don’t be ashamed of getting help that’s what counselors and doctors are there for. There’s nothing wrong with it; sometimes you can fight things on your own. That is also okay because being able to reach out and talking about what’s going on takes a lot of strength and will power. Most people don’t want to talk to anyone in fear of disappointing people. But you need to realize by not getting help it only makes you worse.

Keep your head up; you got this!

From the girl who is in the same place you are.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
