This is it. Your whole life you have been wishing and waiting to finally graduate from high school and go away to college. Sounds reasonable right? Growing up in the same town for 17-18 years, you know everyone, there's nothing to ever do except go out to eat- who wouldn't be excited to leave?
WRONG. So so so wrong! Yeah, sure, it can be boring sometimes but it's only going to make it worse if you're constantly sitting around waiting to leave. You are a SECOND SEMESTER SENIOR. You're basically done. If not all, most of you already know where you're going to college and I can guarantee that you will not be with the same group of people that you have been with for the past 18 years once you leave for college. SO, ENJOY THE TIME YOU HAVE LEFT.
This is it.
You are in the final stretch of being a high school student. You are in the final stretch of ever being able to go to school with all of the people and familiar faces you have known for most of your life. You are in the final stretch of being able to have absolutely zero worries in the world. You are in the final stretch before you all part ways and go on to do whatever it is that you desire in the near future. The memories you are about to make are going to last you a lifetime, so make it worth it.
Friday night football games may be over, BUT that does not mean that basketball games, girls soccer games, lacrosse games, boys volleyball games, baseball games etc.. are also over. GO TO THE GAMES, HAVE FUN- even if you guys may not be the best in the conference, who cares. College is fun and all, but you are never again going to be able to cheer on your friends while they represent your high school mascot. And don't just go to the games, be present at them. Don't just sit there on your phone like you're too cool to be there. Dress up for the theme, go all out from head to toe, actually CHEER on your school, cheer on your friends. Be loud and obnoxious, WHO CARES?
Go hang out with your friends during the week, you don't have to wait until Friday night to all hang out. At this point in the year, you and I both know that seniorities has kicked in, and is in full effect, don't fight that fact- accept it. Still, do your homework and try to get a decent grade on your tests, but don't kill yourself trying to complete assignments- you've already gotten into at least one college (maybe, hopefully) of your choice, so just hang on to that acceptance letter.
Side note: Don't follow your best friend or boyfriend/girlfriend to college.
Go to all the senior events that your school has planned and carry on any traditions that your school may have. Don't hold grudges against anyone, whatever happened has happened, move on. There's so much to look forward too (PROM) and so many more memories to make. Skip class, make those relationships with the teachers you like, make your mark, just go have fun! (Don't be that person that gets a B in physical education)
Graduation day is so bittersweet, and it will come sooner than you ever thought was possible, and It's not going to hit you that you're about to leave everything you have known for the past 18 years to start a whole new chapter in your life. It won't hit you for a while.
Now it's graduation day, and you begin to get random waves of chills down your spine as you, along with all of your friends and classmates, are sitting in your cap and gowns waiting to walk the stage to finally grab your high school diploma wondering where all the time you thought you had left, has gone. You can't fast forward time, so you might as well enjoy every second of it and make the most out of it while you can. These are the days you're going to look back on laughing, and wishing you had more chance to relive them. So go and do exactly that, go and live these days to there upmost potential.
This is it. This is the final stretch.
