It’s not very often that I cause a scene when attending big events. However, when you throw my mother into the mix things can get pretty heated.
Believe me, I love my mother with all my heart. She is a very kind, warm hearted person who can, at times, be afraid of her own shadow (especially if it has eight legs or a tail). However, all it takes is one comment that just rubs her the wrong way and my grandfather’s temper surfaces.
As all of us sports fans know stadium regulations have increased within the past couple of years. Not only is it annoying to pay four dollars for a water or eight dollars for a single hot dog, but the security has upped itself.
Speaking from a Philadelphian’s standpoint, the sports complexes have always been uptight about not allowing outside food or beverages into the stadium. Okay, understandable. You big guys want to make a profit. But here’s the thing…
When you deny a woman of bringing her pocketbook inside expect to get an earful.
So here we go gentleman, a quick lesson on pocketbook ethics. A woman and her pocketbook are like one. It is where she keeps her most valuable (and convenient) items. If someone steals it, looks through it secretly, or tries to separate the two there will be hell to pay.
Did you let that soak in NFL?
Now, it is extremely common for arenas and stadiums to ask to search bags (note: not take it away). But to make no one enter with a bag inside the stadium? Come on. That’s a bit too far don’t you think? What ever happened to simple bag checks?
You know that process where you search the bag and then give the okay?
No, those with bags must now spend more money to check them into lockers. So here I am, watching my mother give the security guards a piece of her mind, offering to dump the contents out of her expensive bag, with my family a few yards away acting as if we don’t know her.
And don’t get me started on what happened once we got inside.
You want to know? Okay, I can tell you.
Concession stands no longer allow you to walk away with the bottle cap because people may throw it. The philosopher in me is staring into the distance pondering, “Hmm interesting, but you do know we can throw the bottle, too?”
The NFL needs to take a step back and see the outcomes of their rulings. These “standards” are a bit much. Because when concerts are held bags are not a problem, but when it’s a football game every rule is enforced. So let me end this with a few choice of words.
Dear NFL,
Let my mother bring her pocketbook into the stadium. It’s been two weeks since the incident and I’m still hearing about it.
Sincerely,
A VERY annoyed daughter
