Have the time of your life but don't forget about me!

To My Younger Best Friends Leaving Me For College

If you are reading this right now, well you know who you are and if you don't then think about it for a second. As I sit in my bed on a gloomy day with nothing to do but watch Netflix, my mind can't stop thinking about how you are possibly leaving me for college.

Yes, I know that I have left you for the past year as I ventured off to complete my first year of school but now it's a bit different. You were the person I looked forward to seeing every time I randomly decided to come home for the weekend. Now as you leave me for school, you won't always be there. To think that you, my best friend, the one I rely on to join my family dinners when I am not there, won't be able to do that anymore makes me more than sad.

I know that as time moves on, things change and people change but what will never change is the friendship I have been so lucky to be blessed with for the past few years now. So as you head off to freshman year of college, just promise me one thing.

As you begin to gain new friendships, please don't forget about me because I promise I definitely won't forget about you. When you are sitting in your dorm room unsure as to what to do, even though I doubt that will happen, call me. Call me to tell me the good and the bad, the crazy and the sad, whatever it is I want to know it all.

Yes maybe my selfish side doesn't want you to go to school but I am looking forward to the many late night drunk calls, hearing about your academics and to obviously meet (over Facetime) all the incredible people you stumble upon along the way that are so lucky to be in your presence.

One thing though, whatever you do make sure to tell me every story in full detail because when we both go home for the holidays and you're telling stories at the dinner table, I want to know what you are talking about and who you are talking about. So keep me in the loop.

Also, I know you may think that I am never going to make my way to visit you but mark my words, I will be there. I'm not fully sure when I'll make it to visit you due to my fully loaded schedule, extracurriculars, and who knows what else but since you are my best friend that can all wait. See you soon?

Lastly, as you are having the time of your life without me just know I am missing you 100% of the time. You, my best friend, have the time of your life in college because in the blink of an eye it will all be over and then something we know as the "real world," will be right there waiting for you. Make lots of memories (just so you can share with me)! Love you best friend!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
