They say you find your people in college. If you're lucky like me, though, you find your people in high school. Going to three separate colleges has taught me that long distance relationships are hard and the FOMO will be real, but no one can replace my two best friends.
To my high school best friends (soulmates),
College is weird. Weird being here without you guys, and even weirder knowing you both have new, separate lives I'm not part of. But through all the weirdness, thanks for making sure nothing between us will ever change. I am seriously #blessed with the most patient BFFs. Through my poor texting skills, inability to make solid plans, and overall spacey-ness, you guys stick with me. I mean, it only took five months of asking for me to finally write an article about you guys. I've started and stopped writing this multiple times--mainly because it always turned out way too cheesy. But here we are, and I hope you accept my cheese ball of a love letter to you both.
Going to college, I knew that I'd lose some of my friends. But I couldn't be happier you two didn't bite the dust, as well. Thank you for still making time for me and my petty problems when I can only imagine how hectic life is. Thank you for knowing (or at least pretending to remember) every single thing I tell you about my school friends. Thank you for not getting too jealous when I call them my best friends as well. At the end of the day, they can't say they saw me with braces and glasses freshman year of high school and still love me like you both can.
Trios aren't supposed to work, but we're living proof that they can. We definitely weren't a love-at-first-sight kind of deal, but we found our way, and that's what matters. You both know how to deflate my ego when I have a big head, give award winning boy advice, and tell me exactly what I need to hear. I'm convinced queen sized beds were made to perfectly fit our sleepover cuddles, and there aren't two other people I'd want to fight over blankets with. With us, three just makes sense. You guys keep me grounded, and more than anything that is what I'm grateful for.
I have a long list of things to thank you both for, but I'll keep it brief; thank you for seeing me at my worst, cheering me on at my best, and being there for everything in between. In terms of the best friend lottery, I really hit the jackpot. Our winter break reunion was too short lived, and I'm already counting down the days until your visit. Until then, I love you both, and stop making new friends (half kidding).
With love,
Clingy girl from high school you're never getting rid of
