To My Best Friend When We're Apart
Chantelle Linthicum

We've been best friends since the 4th grade. We have the craziest memories, from being weird in middle school to...still being pretty openly weird our senior year of high school. Now we're sophomores in college and it's crazy to see how quick time is flying by. We're states apart from each other, and we're both extremely busy people, but there's a few things I want you to always remember.

I'm so proud of you

I'm so proud of all that you do. I admire how involved you are when it comes to school, how thoughtful you are, and how great of friend and student you are. You truly care about others no matter what you're going through; you're just so selfless. You're a hard worker and truly want to succeed in college, you remain focused and always try your best. Even when it's hard to see it yourself, don't ever forget how amazing you are. You're my best friend for a reason after all!

I'm always with you, even when I can't actually be

I know we're both busy and it's hard to keep in touch sometimes, but I'm always with you, even if it just has to be in spirit. I love being able to still in your life and be a part of it even if we don't get to see each other as much as we used to, and I hate when something happens and I can't be there with you. Keeping in touch can be hard, but whenever we do catch up it's like nothing has changed. It's hard not getting to hang out with you whenever and just come over and vent when we have bad days, but I think it makes our friendship even more special in the end. A lot of people don't remain friends because of distance and I'm lucky to have a friend like you who always makes an effort.

I always miss and think of you

Even when it's a bad week where we both have 3 tests and it's hard to keep in touch, I always miss you and think about you. The littlest things remind me of you and I always find myself wishing you were there when something funny happens, like me tripping on the flat ground, to laugh about it with me. I'm always so happy whenever you come visit me or I get to go visit you. I love our tradition of you coming to see me around your birthday and I love coming to visit you and explore where you live now for school.

I never would've imagined that we would be so far apart from each other when it came to school, but I'm so proud of you and all that you do. I always think of you and wish we could experience everything together like we used to, but I think that makes it even more special when we do get to visit each other. I'm so lucky to call you my best friend and I hope you never forget how great you are. Even if you forget from time to time, I promise everyone else around you notices it too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
