As we approach the end of the semester, we must first get through one of the most imperative times of the year -- formal season. Formal season is just beginning and with that comes a lot of fun, excitement, anticipation, jealousy and stress.
No matter if you find the date you've been waiting for, you're set up with someone you don't know or you can't even find a date, you need to make the best of it.
Remember, your formal is about YOU. There's no need to skip out on it just because of the person you bring along. Dates are meant to add to your fun, not take away from it.
Don't let dates get in the way of friends, either. Your friend may get asked by someone you wanted to get asked by. Your friend may even end up taking someone you secretly wanted to take but was too shy to admit it out loud. There's no need to let friendships suffer just because you want to take someone to a dated function for 3 hours that you both may not even remember later on in your college career.
The most stressful part of the season is making sure that you attend at least one formal away weekend. The frats here host such fun formals at destinations for the entire weekend. It sounds so fun, I don't blame anyone who wants to go! Just remember to not take it personally if you don't get asked -- it doesn't mean something is wrong with you if you're not asked to go with someone. It means absolutely nothing on your part, and we both know that the guys who didn't ask are the ones missing out -- not you.
Definitely make the best of both nights. There are only so many formal functions in your college career compared to standard nights out in College Park. Make them extra fun and nights to remember. Yeah, who you take or who takes you isn't a big deal at all, but the reality is is that you have the opportunity to have an awesome night no matter what. If it's your formal, this is going to be the last function your entire sorority will be together until next year. It's the last time you'll be at an event with just your sorority that includes the seniors. It's one of the only few formal events that are only open to the people in your chapter. Take advantage of that.
But also take advantage of the nights if you're at a fraternity's formal as well, if you have the opportunity to do so. Get to know your date if you don't already. Get to know the other brothers. You might end up making really solid friends and having another fun place to go on normal nights out in College Park. You also could potentially make friends with girls in other sororities that are there as well!
Have the best attitude you can. Keep in mind that these nights are planned to be fun. They're not intended to cause stress or drama. Even if your date ends up being absolutely horrific (trust me it can happen) then there's more of a reason to break away, be with yourself, your friends, their dates and all the other people there. You don't need your semester to end on a dramatic and negative note.
