We’ve all had a really tough day that brings us to our knees. Some people have many rough days in a row, weeks and weeks at a time. I've heard people that have had such bad years that they have given up. Sometimes it is hard to bounce back from a hard day or an unfortunate event. It seems that when a bad day is happening, ten other bad things happen and pile up and make the day an absolutely horrible one. There are many days that we countdown to quitting time just because we feel like we are beaten, we are ready to go home and give up.

Some days we don’t want to smile. Some days all we want to do is crawl under our pillow and hide, never leave our homes or talk to anyone, punch a wall, cry until there are no more tears. We feel like tomorrow is years away and there is no way that we can make it through today. The sadness is taking over and it is impossible to be happy. There’s no way we can ‘do life’ today. But, we’re adults here. We know that we cannot just pretend that our life is not going on today, that we can just stay home and sleep away our stress. So what do we do?

We get up when our alarm goes off. Thank God for waking us up for another beautiful day on this beautiful planet. We get ready for our day (whether it be work, school, errands, etc.). We put on our clothes, shoes, and prepare for the day ahead. We head out for the day, forcing a smile and trying to be as positive as possible. Then, something happens that brings us down again. A co-worker comments that you look tired, the boy you went on a date with hasn’t sent you a text this morning, your car has a flat tire; whatever it is, your day is already ruined and it is the only morning. We get that feeling in our head that we have been defeated again. The world is winning and we have lost. This is not the case, not at all.

Take a deep breath. I promise this crappy day will soon be in the past. The sun will come up tomorrow, just as it did yesterday, today, and last week. You are so much bigger than this bad day. You are a strong, beautiful, and loved person. Do something to cheer yourself up. Eat at your favorite restaurant, meet your favorite person and have a chat, call you mother, play in the rain, do whatever it takes to get your spirits up again. Then, smile. Smile big. Laugh at yourself, gosh this is so important to me! Every day it is so important that you find a reason (or multiple reasons) to smile and laugh. Heck, that one smile that one day could be what someone falls in love with. So shine those pearly whites and stand up. Don’t let life keep you down.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
