As graduation nears, you may be in that situation where your significant other will soon be graduating and you are stuck learning about all that college has to offer. The thought of going into a long distance relationship may be scary and uncertain. Here are some tips to help with any nervous feelings about distance.
1. The best way to cope with distance is technology.
No duh we always rely on technology, right? Right. But with the challenge of not seeing your significant other every day or every other day at school, it may be hard to survive from those “affections and cuddling” withdrawals. The best thing to help with that is keeping constant communication. Whether it be always texting or calling at night, you will realize that you’ll miss them, but you can always still hear their voice to reassure you that everything will be OK.
2. Do your favorite things to distract you from any withdrawal.
Joining a club, getting an on campus job, hanging out with friends, and yes, even doing your homework will help distract you from those missing feelings. It may not always be the most fun thing to do, but it will help take your minds off things. The best thing to do to help not think about it is to do things that will make you have to think about other things.
3. Have a Galentine’s Day or a day with all of your best friends.
If you are a female, then it’s a Galentine’s Day or a day dedicated to all the ladies in your life. If you are a male, then it’s a nice hangout with the boys. The best things to do are to go on a shopping trip, have some brunch, or go to an arcade and have a friendly competition with each other. When you can’t do things that are romantic in nature, then the next best thing is to have some fun with your friends.
4. Create a diary/journal of letters to send to your significant other.
If technology isn’t enough, then writing letters to let your better half know that you’re OK and to give them a giggle is something that they will entertain themselves with by reading. Even if you get too excited and let them know of the great things that happened during your week, it’s always something nice to look at and have a memory about for future days to come.
Hopefully these tips will help with those days where you just wish your other half was there to share in some fun at college with you. But the good news is that it’s never waiting for forever. In the meantime, these tips can help you take your mind off things and can also help you have fun in the process.
