So You've Forgotten About Your New Year's Resolutions: A Few Resolutions You Can Actually Keep

There is always that reflection of the past year that makes us think on how we can better ourselves for the next year. Now, this isn't about New Year's resolutions, it is more about making the year better. So ditch the I'm going to eat healthy or I'm going to spend less crap. It's old school and totally cliché. As we merge into February and forget about all those cliché resolutions, let's take a moment to think about what's really important in our lives. So here are a few ideas to help you make the rest of your year absolutely amazing.

Stop holding grudges. OK, maybe this tip is kind of cliché, but it holds merit nonetheless. Go ahead and throw those old grudges out the window. They make us feel bitter just thinking about it. Why not just take a deep breath, look at it a different way, and make amends? You could lose a relationship or a friendship if you keep holding on.

Ever feel like you don't have anything to do? Why not join a club or start a hobby! Clubs are great. They help you to better yourself with friendships, skills and maybe just to have a bunch of laughs! Make the year amazing by getting out and doing something every day. Personally, that is how I feel about horseback riding and being on the team. It gets me outside, relieves the stress from school and keeps me fit! What's not to love?

I think the most important tip to having an amazing year is just to love yourself. Stop comparing yourself to the Victoria's Secret models. YOU are BEAUTIFUL. Look at your body from maybe your sports view. Your strong thighs, which you may say look huge, are so beneficial if you're a girl that plays rugby. Being healthy is the new sexy.

Another tip is embracing the beauty of the world around us by enjoying nature. We should put our phones down, turn the TVs off, and just go for a long walk on a trail. We spend too much time with technology, and we forget how beautiful our world truly is.

We can also see the world through a different lens by volunteering at a homeless shelter or animal shelters. We then get a different view on life and see that we are truly blessed with everything we have. This will make you feel good about yourself because you're giving back to the community.

Another way to making this year amazing is to spoil yourself every once and a while. Are you stressing about classes and exams coming up? Get out of the house and go spoil yourself. This could be an occasional mani-pedi or even just going to buy that shirt or pair of shoes that you've been ogling at the mall. It's healthy to spoil yourself once in a while.

My favorite tip for having an amazing year would be to become more spontaneous. This could be in relation to study abroad or trips through the school. When you hear about a trip that has so many activities paid for, go do it. It will feel so amazing and you'll have so many stories to tell your friends. Just pack up a bag and get on the plane or bus to that trip destination!

One fun tip to making this year amazing would be starting that bucket list! Why wait when you can reach a couple of the bucket list items on this coast?! You could go to Alaska to the see the Northern Lights, visit every icon in Seattle, and even go to Canada! There is a lot you could cover in the Pacific Northwest.

Another great way to an amazing new year is to give everyone a chance when it comes to love or dating. Whether it's a new guy or that best friend you've been thinking of dating, give it a go. Who knows, maybe they're the tea to your crumpets. Love hides in mysterious places, you just need to investigate for it to show its face to you.

Last but not least, adopt an animal or foster one. Make the year a lot less stressful by having a furry companion by your side. Adopt if you have the budget for it, or foster if you have some cushion for it. It will make life more cheerful and filled with wagging tails. I don't know why, but animals just make life so much better. Either it's the cute puppy eyes or that they are always there for you, but furry friends are so irresistible.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
