Days can be unbelievable tough, especially if you are a new college student like me. Stress is not something to take likely, it can lead to many medical issues that could have been prevented. We all get stressed out sometimes and we tend to brush it off or seek out negative influences to help us cope. Here are some tips on how how to deal with stress in a healthy and safe manner.
1. Take an hour out of your day to do something you love.
We often become so distracted by outside factors such as school, work, friends, etc. that we never have time to do the things we enjoy. So take some time in your schedule and plan to do something fun for yourself where you allow yourself to not have any work from school or work allowed. This should help keep you grounded in yourself and not loose sight of who you are while maintaining your stress.
2. Make Lists.
As an avid lover of lists and schedules, I can assure you that making a list of everything I have to do in the morning lifts a weight off my chest. It allows me to walk around without the feeling that I have forgotten to do something. Simply make a list before you go to bed of all you want to accomplish the m=next day so you don't forget.
3. Take a minute to breathe.
Our lives are so fast paced in this modern world and everyone seems to be moving so fast barley taking time to stop and take a breathe. So take a minute when you are feeling overwhelmed and close your eyes and breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Just taking the time to do this will oxygenate your brain and begin to reduce your stress levels.
4. Work out
Even though I hate working out with a fiery passion, I can honestly say that I nothing can help stress more than a long and fast run. Spend at least 30 minutes outside or at the gym breaking a sweat and get everything out of your system.
5. Ask for help.
Sometimes we can come to the point where we are overcome with stress and feel like the world is out to get us. Do not be afraid to ask others for help and lean on your love ones. No situation is too small, you deserve to have someone care for you.
