Tips When Applying to the Disney College Program

I have seen many articles over applying for The Disney College Program, and I too have written a few things about it. But since taking a step back, I have realized what everyone should do before applying for the program. I have a large number of friends who are interested in applying for the program and they always ask me the same question. How do I get accepted?

So here are a few tips on what to do to make sure your interview is top notch:

1. Make sure you have a passion for the company.

The College Program is a lot of work, and if you do not have a passion for The Walt Disney Company, you will easily feel burned out and homesick. I am not saying that you need to have seen every Disney movie every produced, but you need to have a passion for what they company stands for and you need to share the same goals as they company.

2. Have a passion for people.

People are what keep the company going. Many times people have saved money for years in order to visit the parks. You number one priority when working at Walt Disney needs to be making the guest happy. They are here for the experience of a lifetime and it is your job to make that dream possible!

3. Be ready to make magic.

Magic is what keeps the dream of Disney alive. Everyday when you walk into your workplace, know that something magical is going to happen.

4. Be prepared.

There are tons of Youtube videos about applying for the program, and each will give you a detailed representation of their phone interview. Think of possible questions and know how you will answer those questions. Make sure you hold typical interview qualities dear during your interview. For example, smile when you are on the phone. Remember your interviewers name, and sit in a quite and productive place during your interview.

5. Be honest during your interview.

Many people go into the interview thinking that if they shove their love for Disney down the interviewers throat, they will be accepted. This is not true at all! Many times people who are accepted to the program have never visited a Disney park and sometimes they have never seen a Disney film. The interviewer wants to know who you are as a person and why you are interested in working for this company. You do not need to make up stories about why Disney changed your life just to prove that you love Disney more than the next person they are going to interview.

Applying for the program is a big deal, so make sure that you are ready to work long hours and to move hours away from home. If you are, working for The Walt Disney Company will be the most amazing experience of your life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
